Hi all,
I'm not sure if I am posting this request in the right place but,
I am searching for descendants of Robert Jones, bricklayer of Cross Street Blakenall. 1850 - 1885, and his wife Emma Williams both natives of North Wales;
Daughter Elizabeth Jones b. 1848 at Stafford m. Richard Owen 1867 (dec) then George Grice 1872, both at Wolverhampton. Daughter Emily Owen b. 1868. Then; Alfred (Grice) b.1872, George b. 1882 Robert b. 1885, then Florence b.1889 Address; 17 Hawthorn Road Wolverhampton, 1901 Census.
Daughter Mary Ann Jones, b. Walsall 1850, m. Joseph Beech b. 1846. Their
children Emma b.1876, Robert b. 1879, Charles b. 1880.
Address 1881 Census; 9 Dalton Street Chorlton on Medlock, Lancashire
Son Alfred Jones, b. 1853 at Wolverhampton. married Sarah Anne 1872, their son Thomas b.1876 married Ellen 1909, their daughter Katherine Mabel b.1909 married Samuel J Swatman 1938 at Bilston, Address 1911 Census; 74 Oxford Street Bilston
My apologies for this being such a mouthful but I am trying to trace English relatives whom I have never known, especially descendants of Katherine Mabel Swatman (Jones).
Alfred Jones' son Thomas would have been aged 38 at the outbreak of WW1, I have no information if he survived the war or not and another son Arthur b. 1878 I believe was deceased by 1911 Census
Thanks, David

Hi David
Could you clarify Roberts birthyear please as it doesn't tie in with the childrens birthyears
Robert Jones, bricklayer of Cross Street Blakenall. 1850 - 1885

Oh sorry Carole, ..silly me
Robert Jones born c.1820 at Holywell Flint.
Emma williams b. 1826 Welshpool Montgomeryshire.
Robert's marriage being at St. Nicholas Liverpool, 4 July 1847. The family's address at Blakenhall was 26 Cobden Street, from 1850 approx, then by 1881 had moved to 44 Cross Street. Thomas, son of Alfred living at 26 Cobden Street by 1881 Census, and Elizabeth (Grice) living at 62 Franchise Street Blakenhall.
Robert and Emma migrated to Australia in October 1885, following their youngest son Thomas and his wife Phoebe and children Emma, Frederick and Ellen who emmigrated a year earlier in 1884.
Not sure about Robert's exact birth date, ..possibly 1822. Father Edward, miner and mother Margaret (according to 1897 death cert.)

Hi
I know this doesn't answer the query re: descendants but the 1847 marriage cert shows Robert occ bricklayer - father Edward a miner
Emma's father was Thomas occ labourer
Witnesses were Hugh Hughes and Ann Edwards
You probably already have this info but just in case
Freebmd shows 3 Swatman births with a mothers maiden name of Jones - 1939-1953
Because they could still be alive - I cannot post details here but will send you a pm

There is already a thread from someone else about this couple.

I know there is another thread as I found the Liverpool(1847) marriage for someone.

David is offline so presume this is meant for me. I opt for a permanent login to RC so when my PC is on - it may look as though I am on RC - but I do leave my PC for periods at a time

No Carole W,it was meant for the OP!

Ah, ...thank you Carole, ...and William.
Yes, William provided me with the 1847 marriage, ... as I stated, I wasn't sure if I was posting in the right place, but I do hope I'm not stepping on toes either, and mucking up the system.
I did request this info some time ago, hit the usual brickwalls, and after some amount of frustration had a meltdown, ...so I quit for a time. Changed internet provider, ...couldn't log back in, gave up again, ...then had a fresh crack at it recently. But I am making progress, I am happy to say. The thing is I just wish my name was anything other than Jones, ha ha. But no, I am so proud of my name.
Thanks to another Rootschat member I now have a photograph of my g-grandfathers grave at Port Chalmers, Dunedin NZ, and I will make it my duty to go there and place a plaque to his memory, because I feel he died alone without family and was buried a pauper. Don't know the circumstances, ...but I'm working on it. Something will turn up. This is why I have a need to find Jones descendants in the UK, ...because these people are also relatives, ...I'm just not sure how to go about it. It is so, so sad how families just drift apart with the passage of time.
Cheers from Australia,
David J

Hello all,
If George Grice is still in Wolverhampton in 1911 is there any trace of wife Elizabeth as well, or is a death recorded anywhere? Ditto sister Mary Ann Beech or Beach, (Jones) ?
cheers, David

1911 lookups are not allowed on Rootschat so you would have to look at the 1911 record for George to see if Elizabeth was still with him at that time or use the instructions below
USING THE FREE 1911 INDEX TO DETERMINE THE CORRECT HOUSEHOLD
http://www.1911census.co.uk/search/tnaform.aspx
Once you find a possible match - make a note of the county and district in which the person was living
Return to the index and in PERSONAL DETAILS - just put the surname of the family - nothing else
In LOCATION - Select the county and below it - type in the district
In OTHER MEMBERS OF THE HOUSEHOLD - show the full name of the person you have found on the index
Click SEARCH
The 1911 census is strictly pay per view so you will have to buy credits to view the full entry - the above instructions will only help to possibly show others of the same surname in the same household
-
George Grice died in Wolverhampton in 1912.Though I can't find a definite death for Elizabeth Grice,I was still looking for a death for her after 1912.So you can draw your own conclusions in answering your question!

William Russell Jones.

As far as Joseph and Mary Ann Beach are concerned they are not showing too readily after 1881.There is a possible sighting of son Charles in 1901.

Can anyone find other descendants of Alfred Jones ?
I have from the old family search 1881 census;
Alfred W Jones, age 29 b. 1852 W/Hampton, Tap & Die maker
Sarah A Jones, age 28 b.1853 W/hampton wife
Margret, daughter age 9 b. 1872, W/hampton, scholar
Maria, daughter, age 8 b. 1873 .....ditto
Thomas, son, age 6 b. 1875 ....ditto
Arthur, son, age 3, b. 1878 ....ditto
Dwelling; 26 Cobden Street Wolverhampton
I believe from earlier information that Arthur and/or Maria may have deceased by 1911 Census, but I need this confirmed. Wife Sarah seems to be now favoring her second name of Annie. Also any other children of Thomas Jones, please ?
I feel that the search for Grice/Beech /Swatman has concluded, albeit death dates for Elizabeth Grice and Mary Ann Beech or Beach.
cheers, David

As per my reply above - 1911 lookups are not allowed. You will need to check freebmd or the 1911
