Hello fellow "chatters",
I am asking for any help regarding this relative of mine. She was born in Ohringen, Germany but may have emigrated to the UK with her brother, or even followed her brother a few years later. He, Friedrich August Louis Schoch (my grandfather), arrived in 1895 and was a butcher. I am hoping that Rosa Nanette (Rosalie/Rosaline/Rosine) also emigrated to the UK as I can find no record of her death/marriage in Germany, or anywhere else for that matter.
Thanks
Richard

Frederick was born c 1859 according to the 1901 census.
If Rosa was a similar age - I would have thought she would be married by 1895
Do you have any info that confirms she survived infancy
-
Could he be born 1880 or is that too late? Only there is one such chap working with a pork butcher in Northumberland - or is that someone else, maybe a relative?
There are similar Rosa names in the US census but can't tell if it's her :-\
-
Could he be born 1880
If his wife was Babette - then he was b 1859 and living in Essex in 1901

Hello CaroleW and Milliepede,
Thanks for you responses. Friedrich was born in 1879 (confirmed from church records and family documents), so Rosa would have to be 7 yrs younger than him.
Milliepede; Yes he was the Pork Butcher in Northumberland (Wallsend 1911) & (Sunderland 1901 as well).
Carole the question of her surviving infancy is a valid one except that the church records show the births/deaths etc. of all other siblings, but other than her birth and baptism in 1900 there are no other entries for her. So I am left with the hope that she too emigrated. I have no responses from either posts in Germany or the USA, hence this post for the UK.

I collect and offer for sale Victorian/Edwardian memorabilia and have come across a number of postcards concerning a Rosa Schock which may be useful to you.

Hi,
Very interesting thank you, however the Rosa in my tree did not leave Germany until the earliest date of 1900, possibly as late as 1909. The census you have shows her in the Uk in 1891 and being born there as well.
Thanks
Richard

I wonder if there is some family connected as Rosa's father is also recorded as a butcher from Germany;
SCHOCK, John, Head, Married, M, 45, Butcher, born 1846, Germany.

There is a German Pork Butchers list on Rootschat, perhaps posting it there might get some interest. Use the name John Schock (Schoch) with any details you have.
