I came across information that a year or so ago a Victorian Medical Association wrote a tribute to Dr. HATCH for his work as a "ships surgeon" during the mid 1800's. He was the husband of my great grand aunt, Martha (COLLINS) but, unfortunately, he perished on his last voyage back to the UK from Melbourne, when his ship, the "Royal Charter", was wrecked on rocks off the coast of Wales, in 1859. I have tried to obtain a copy of the tribute from the Victorian Medical group but to no avail, they just haven't replied to my email's. I would very much appreciate it if anyone might be able to help me get a copy of the tribute.
Thank you

Do you have this summary?
http://www.medicalpioneers.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?detail=1&id=2838
I think you have made a request to an organization which wasn't incorporated at the time your relative was in Victoria.
The Port Phillip Medical Association, the first medical association in the Australian colony, was fashioned on the British Medical Society to which the doctors belonged. The Australian Medical Association - Victoria originated from the Port Phillip Medical Association and British Medical Society.

No, I don't have this summary but I will try it straight away and see what it brings.
Thanks very much.

Thanks Cando.
I did have a look at the summary and a lot what was on there, I did have. It was quite some time that I made the request and the person who I made the request to said that she didn't have the tribute but would contact the necessary organisation and ask them to get in touch with me but that never happened. I have been away for a while and am just getting started again and I have lost my original contact, so I am starting from scratch once mere.

While you may already have this information it gives, at least, an approximate date for the tragedy:
This is one account of shipwreck of the Royal Charter, from The South Australian Advertiser Monday 9 January 1860. The wreck was about the 27th October 1859. There are many more articles on TROVE.

This article tells of finding his body and personal effects.

Can't see a mention for any obituary though.

Once again everyone, thank you for your valuable help, some of which I had, some I didn't but it just goes to help me compile more of the Family story.
Thanks.

Did they ever find his body? I see no evidence of a death registration England/Wales.
His marriage:
George Edmund Farncombe Hatch
married Martha Collins, 18 Jul 1844,
Walton On Thames, Surrey, England.
Known to have lived at Walton-in-Thames and Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire.

Hi barryd, Yes, they did find his body and they buried him, and others from the disaster, in a cemetery near where the ship went down, but for some reason a Death Certificate was never issued. All that you have posted is correct but of course there is plenty more, eg Wills etc.
Thanks for your interest, though.

barryd have you read the links on the thread? His body was found. Perhaps his surname was mistranscribed. I have a number of ancestors whose deaths, according to the online indexes, were not registered, however I have photos of their headstones and newspaper reports of their deaths. Perhaps a search of the local records office would be worth while.
Peter I realise you have researched your man thoroughly and wondered if you have transcribed newspaper item wherein George is reported as Dr HUTCH.

Cando.
As I said in one of the earlier postings to "barryd" there was still plenty more to Dr. George and his Family that I did know of and although I didn't say exactly what it was, the Will for him and the Will for his wife Martha were known to me. I do sincerely thank you, though and am sorry that I wasn't more specific, but in trying to keep my messages as brief as possible, I guess sometimes it doesn't help.

Yes I thought you probably had his Will but did you have the Probate Grant?
Did you have the transcribed news report from the Old Mersey Times...

I checked a few of the names of the victims that are published and could not find any death registrations. They should have been in the Anglesey Registration District DEC QTR 1859 or even MAR QTR 1860. There are some unmarked graves in the Churches of Llanallgo and Pentraeth. I would imagine an unmarked grave also means no death registration.

Hi Cando. Yes I have seen the Probate Grant. It was less than 600 British Pounds. I don't remember if I have read the transcribed report from the Old Mersey Times though. I have seen numerous newspaper reports on the shipwreck and barryd, it was in one of these reportings that I saw that Dr. George was buried in the Church grounds near where the wreck occurred. His body was identified by one or more of the survivors and I also know that Martha was in dire financial difficulties for some time until his Will was settled. I would still like to obtain a copy of the tribute to Dr. George that was delivered a couple of years ago, though.
Peter.

It is quite possible the article was published by a history group. A number of articles published in Aus on the Royal Charter...try google.
