Post by: mitchellguthrie on Tuesday 04 September 12 20:41 BST (UK)
Hi all,

Looking for relatives of Marion Orr Paterson (Guthrie). b.1915 Cambusnethan, Lanark d. 1993 Carluke, South Lanarkshire. Did she have any brothers or sisters, did she have any children?

Thanks, Mitchell.

Hi Mitchell

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

This period is hard for people to generally help with as you are entering a time when records are not generally available online due to data protection.

What have you checked so far? For example:

- marriage details may include family names as witnesses
- similarly, death details may include a child's name as an informant to the death (or her husband's death cert similarly).
- have you followed through on her father and mother's death certs? Again their death certs could well include their children's names as informants to their deaths.

Monica  :)

You need to (get someone to) go to the Scotland's People Centre and search there for children using both parents' surnames.

It's a bit more difficult before the late 1920s, because mother's maiden names aren't included in the birth indexes before then, so finding siblings would take a bit more effort.
