Title: Girthon - Gatehouse of Fleet.
Post by: Solway on Monday 03 September 12 16:34 BST (UK)
Can anyone please assist with the following two queries in connection with Gatehouse of Fleet?
In Pigot & Co's 1825-26 Directory, mention is made of 'Nelson Street'.  Where was this Street located?
On the War Memorial, there is a Robert Dalrymple and I wonder if someone may know the names of his parents?
Any information on the above would be much appreciated.

Regarding Q 2,-- if you try this link for the C.W.G.C. site it shows only 3 Dalrymple's
with first name begining with an R.

It does show parents name & address.

This link gives further info on the memorial.

There is a Neilson Square in Gatehouse, which today is just a couple of cottages on Ann Street.
Neilson Street was nearby but the buildings on it have long gone.

Thanks for this, Callywoods. From what you say, it appears there is a misprint in Pigot's Directory in the spelling of Neilson.
Much appreciated.
