Title: info on Ann Sharkey, wife of Hugh McGarvey, Kincasslagh, 1901 ?
Post by: shansf on Monday 03 September 12 05:59 BST (UK)
Hi,

I'm looking for any info on Ann Sharkey, wife of Hugh McGarvey, as listed in the 1901 census for Kincasslagh, particularly any siblings she had, and info on parents & grandparents up the line.

There is a transcription in the following link listing their children & some other misc info.
All i know is her father was Eugene.

She is in some way related to my grandmother, Mary Sharkey from Kincasslagh (daughter of Owen;  married Jim O'Donnell, NT, Meenbanad in the 1930's). The McGarvey kids were cousins of my grandmothers but not positive if they were 1st cousins or not.

If anyone has more info on the Ann Sharkey than is listed in the page below, I would be most grateful.

Thanks

Here's the McGarvey family in 1901-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Donegal/Rutland/Kincaslagh/1179295

Same family in 1911- married 40 years so c1871-
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Rutland/Kincaslough/489605

The marriage certificate for Hugh and Ann should list their residences at the time of the marriage and their fathers' names and occupations.

Since both Hugh and Ann were born before the start of civil birth registration (1864) you'll need to search for church records to see if baptismal register gives their mothers' names and any siblings.

The free index on ifhf shows Anne Sharkey marrying Hugh McGarvey in 1869 and confirms that her father was called Eugene

Hi,
I'm nearly sure that Ann McGarvey was a sister of Owenie Sharkey (Mary Nellie Sharkey of Kincasslagh's father) from Mullaghduff and Kít Sharkey Boyle from Ballymanus, all children of Owen Brian Sharkey of Mullaghduff.

I am currently researching a Rose Anne Sharkey (Sharkie), who was born around 1817 in Donegal, to a Daniel Sharkey and Sarah Collins. From information that I have I know that she married a Hugh Moore in Donegal in February 1836, a marriage conducted by a Reverend McMenomie.
I believe that she hails from the Rosses area of west Donegal but was wondering if anyone has come across a Father McMenomie (McMenomy) who may have practised at that time and could point me in the direction of a particular parish or location.
The family moved to Scotland in 1839 where she lost her husband in 1847, leaving her widowed with 4 children to raise.
