Hello
Trying to find any descendants of grt-grt-grt grandfather James Ferguson Blackwood. He emigrated to New Zealand in 1858 with his wife Elizabeth and three children Harriet, James and Jane. He died five years later aged only 38 and was buried in an unmarked grave in Dunedin.
Son James married Agnes Emily Smith, they had eight children:
Herbert (b. 1879; d, 1940) - never married
James Alexander (b. 1880; d. 1951) - married two times: Elsie Ellen Gutsell (d. at only 20), two children James and William; then Mary Dudly, no children
Martha Elizabeth (twin; b. 1881; d. 1955) - married Charles Hayward, eight children James, George, Charles, Muriel, Ronald, Norman, Violet and Thelma
Mary Isabella (twin; b. 1881; d. 1949) - married two times: George Fisher, one child Josephus; then John Edward Joseph Lund
Francis Arthur Emilton Gilbert (b. 1885; d. 1962) - married Edith Toy, one child Gilbert
Isaac Alfred Edwin Sydney Vincent Eccles (b. 1886; d. 1949) - married Violet Florence Lizzie Tomlinson, one child Clarence (d. 2004 at 92)
Marcus Albert Victoria (b. 1887; d. 1958) - married Barbara Thomasena Forman, three children Albert, Eileen and Hector (d. as infant)
Lewis Hercules Theodore (b. 1890; d. 1890) - died as infant
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
Cheers

Hi William
Where you have mentioned that James F Blackwood died and was buried in Dunedin. The rest of the family you have listed .. have you any idea where they died or are interred?
If you e mail an request the Dunedin City Library at http://www.dunedinlibraries.govt.nz/your-library/locations-and-hours/city-library
will be able to supply death notices / obituaries from the Otago Daily Times.
Papers Past might also be worth checking for Birth Notices / Death Notices.
If you have Ancestry.Com New Zealand Electoral Rolls until 1981 can be searched.
Now if you require any gravesite photographs from the Dunedin Cemeteries I could likely arrange that. Let me know?
Happy hunting

Hello Alex
James F Blackwood is buried in Southern Cemetery at Dunedin. As for the others:
Herbert, James Alexander I, James Alexander II, Mary Dudly, Martha, Charles I, George, Charles II, Nellie (wife of Charles II), Mary Isabella and John Lund are all at Andersons Bay Cemetery.
Photographs of the graves would be great, thanks.
Cheers

Hi William,
Lewis Hercules Theodore (b. 1890; d. 1890) - died as infant
Burial locator has Lewis Herenley Theodore 1890 15 Wks place of death Gore. Very likely the middle name has been transcribed wrong.
Not sure if The Hokonui Heritage Centre would have more info.

Havilland Charles Rapsey is my great-grandfather. He actually lived at 26 Rona St Eastbourne in Wellington and lived there from 1951 to his death.
His son Havilland Keith, my grandfather, was the head of Wright Stephenson & Co in Australia from the 50s up until the early 80s and died in 2010.

I have some photographs from the Andersons Bay Cemetery. This is the best I can do with the information you provided. Again I repeat some of the names you mentioned dont appear on the NZSG Burial Locator or the Dunedin Cemetery online records.
With regard the family member in the Southern Cemetery there is a gravesite photograph already available online if you check Dunedin Cemetery records.
Should you wish to PM me your e mail address I will forward the photographs for you.

Hi William
Just found this site.
James Ferguson Blackwood is also my great-great-great grandfather.
My great grandparents are James Alexander and his wife Mary (nee Dudly). They went on to have four children of their own in addition to James's first two children to his wife Elsie.
James and Elsie's children
James Alexander Blackwood (1907 - 1973) married Violet (died 1973)
William David Vincent Blackwood (1909 - 1977)
James and Mary's children
Marcus Alexander Blackwood (1912 - 1988) no children
Mona Emily Blackwood (1914 - 1965) married Arthur Stewart 7 children
Alfred Herbert (Herb) Blackwood (1917 - 1971) married Ruth Gutsell 4 children
Edna Mary Blackwood (1920 - 1997) never married.
Herb and Ruth Blackwood are my grandparents with Ruth still living in Mosgiel.
The Blackwoods settled in Otago/Southland area. James Alexander (I) was for a time a blacksmith in Balclutha (South Otago) and Elsie his first wife is buried at the old cemetery in Balclutha. They then moved to Dunedin where the family settled.
Hope that this provides some additional family connections for you.

Hi Nicki
Great to hear of your Blackwood connection. Do you have any photos of the Blackwoods? I have a few, mostly of Havilland/Toby, Keith and his sister Anne.
Anne lives in Sydney, I will be visiting her sometime next week.

Hi William,
I just wanted you to know that I worked with/for your grandfather from 1967 to 1970 at Wright Stephenson in Sydney. I was the secretary to the then manager and Keith and please know he was a fantastic boss.
From memory he had moved from Bordertown in South Australia to Sydney for the job. I'm glad to read he had a long life.
Cheers, Doreen Ross
