Hi...I'm looking for the gravestones of my paternal ancestors. The Martin family were mainly farmers in the Wardy Hill area of Ely, Cambridgeshire. There are no records of them in their local church of Coveney, so I wonder if they may have been buried elsewhere?
According to my family, my paternal 2nd great grandparents were affluent farmers. This is true because James Martin (1785-1856) made a Will in 1848 leaving his farm, outbuildings and household items etc to his widow and 3 of his 12 children.
Any help would be appreciated.

There are 634 Martin burials in the 19th century in Cambs on the NBI, which isn't complete. Difficult to help when you don't give any names or dates. Who exactly are you looking for ie Christian names, and when did they die?

As we said in the earlier thread, they may not have had gravestones, or they've eroded or whatever over the years. Easier to trace burials than gravestones.

Yes there are Martin burials in Coveney, as pointed out earlier "The Burial Index on the Cambs FHS site at http://www.cfhs.org.uk/Search.html shows eleven Martin burials in Coveney St Peter ad Vincula in the period 1801-37 alone"
In 1851 James Martin is described as a farmer of 5 acres. This can hardly be considered affluent

Much later: Last year you said that you were getting the Cambs FHS fiche of Coveney MIs. Is this the "records of them" to which you refer. If it is, have you checked the burial records in Coveney parish register?

Wardy Hill burials may have been buried at Witcham. There are a lot (my lot) over at Little Downham, but if you can't see them at Coveney, then i'm not sure why they'd stray further.
Coveney also has a chapel on the Main Street with burials in the grounds, although i've already scoured this and don't recall finding any Martin people there.
Genuki says that nearby 'Hayhead' (Way Head) had a baptist chapel and that Wardy Hill had a Wesleyan chapel.
