I am searching for any info on my ggggrandmother Ellen Fiitzpatrick born abt 1818 Kildare. She was sentenced to 7yrs transportation on 6th June 1837 at Meath for stealing. She arrived in Australia in 1838 on convict ship Diamond. She married fellow convict Justus Wilson Hudson in Port Macquarie NSW in 1845 they had 7 children. She died at Kempsey NSW in1889. I havent any info before Ausralia but have family tree in Australia.Have no info on her parents or any other family in Ireland.Any help would be appreciated.

To search for early parish records you usually require a more detailed location i.e. the name of the town, townland or parish where this Fitzpatrick family lived.

My Ancestor came from Ireland - where do I start? (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,498742.0.html)
Have you searched for marriage and death records for your Ellen to see if they give any details of her parents ?

Ellens death cert shows parents unknown.Records of her transportation are correct .She was illiterate and signed with a cross on her marriage certificate. Her eldest child was called Mary who was born before her marriage .Maybe she was called after her mother.I realize it is difficult to trace without much info. Just hoping that someone maybe tracing this family as well.I dont seem to have much success tracing any of my Irish ancestors because there is limited information .I may stike it lucky oneday. Thanks for your advice

1818 is before many of the RC parish records available, particularly in rural areas, where the average starting date for records would be about 1830, which is why the location is important.
There are some Fitzpatrick baptisms in Co. Kildare around the the time including a few Ellens, but unfortunately without a location or family details as clues there's no way to verify, or rule out, any of these...

Thanks for your help.I realize it is near impossible.Maybe someone out there will one day go searching for a long lost relative who was transported .

That's all I have...I don't have the parents either...not sure how I even got that, I will have to look back through my records and will let you know if I find anything. I've got a few I'm looking for in Ireland... From what I can gather the potato famines wiped out whole districts. Are you in Aus?
-
Yes I am in Aus.Are you part of the family. Thanks

Yes Ellen is my ggggrandmother. I live in the Kempsey area of NSW. :)

Parish Registers
http://registers.nli.ie/
The only suggestion I'd have is as she was in court in Meath she might be from one of the Kildare parishes bordering or near Meath, but without more family names any find could only be a possible.

Some descendants of Ellen have family trees with her parents as Patrick Fitzpatrick & Bridget Delaney.I have not verified this.I found this info after my first post a few years ago.

Hi Chinka,
My name is Andrea and Ellen Fitzpatrick and Justus Wilson Hudson were my ggggrandparents. I have a book that my Aunty obtained from Kempsey library on Ellen and Justus.
By chance I came across your post and just registered to keep in touch.

Hello all,
I am researching the connection of Justus Wilson Hudson as I recently found a DNA connection from my mothers DNA test through John Frederick Goodwin.
Just wondering if anyone is able to assist. I do have Hudson in my direct line through Elizabeth Hudson who married Thomas Hux.
Any information would be great.
Thanks Tanya

Hi Chinka,
During my research I had seen your posts but not responded due to the time frame. I now see you have recently reactivated this discussion. I have come up with several DNA matches to the Ellen and Justus family, my family are descendants of a Hugh Fitzpatrick and Bridget Ahern from Victoria married 1845. I have been trying to find out when and where he was born. With the DNA matches it appears your Ellen and my Hugh were related. I believe my Hugh was possibly born in 1807 from Meath if the convict who came out on the Cambridge is my ancestor. As Ellen was born in 1811 this could put them either as siblings or maybe 1st cousins. Looking forward to further possibilities.
