Post by: kessy122217 on Monday 27 August 12 21:57 BST (UK)
been looking at my gr grandfather born 1879. found him in the 1911 census living as a boarder in clewer in windsor. It has his birth place in the typed area as carrow lincoln. After having a look I can't find a carrow in Lincs so checked original and i don't think it says carrow at all but not sure what it says.looks abit like carrot :). if anyone could help i would be greatful.

I think it might say "Carr St, Lincoln".  There is a Carr St in modern Lincoln, not sure if it's the same one: http://goo.gl/maps/DAxHW

In 1881 the family were living at 31 Carr Street, Lincoln.

i wasn't expecting the street name just thought it was the town or district.

I have seen a few 1911 entries where the street name and number were entered on the form - here's an example
