Please be careful not to mentioned details of people that may still be alive as that against RootsChat's privacy policy.

Do you have your mother's birth cert already ?

The Irish BMD Index on FamilySearch covers event up to 1958, so should probably include her birth, and her parents marriage if it took place here. Athy town is based in the registration district of the same name, so thats what to look out for on the Index.

The main problem is the very recent dates involved, since other than the BMD Index, very few records for this timeframe are available online, for reasons of privacy etc.

see :  Introduction to Irish Records (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,442233.0.html)

There are four possible children born to this couple on the BMD Index - but the dates are too recent for posting. I'll send the Index references to you by Personal Message once you have a few more posts (3 are required for you to have full access to this).

You can use these references to order certs from the GRO to see if they are the correct family.

hi shane, thanks for your advise, above names mentioned are deceased. my mother does not hold a birth certificate. she was born at home and has searched for years for records on her birth, but could never find anything

I dont see a Clare/Behan birth registered in 1956 - but there are several others between 1952 and 1958. Sometimes birth registrations were late, so appear in the next quarter, and some could have been missed from official records, although very few in the 1950s..

Reply once more to this thread, so the personal message system is fully available to you. I'll send those names...

There's a possible marriage for William and Kathleen in Athy district in 1950 - with his name listed as Clear :

  Name: William Clear
  Registration district: Athy
  Event type: Marriage
  Quarter and year: Jul-Sep 1950
  Volume: 3 / Page: 228

A Kathleen Behan appears on the Index with the same details, so a possible bride to this William.

For notes on ordering certs, and the details they include see :

I've sent you a PM with those names and references, which look to be four possible children for William & Kathleen.

You should receive a notification email from RootsChat with a link to the message, or you can click on the message link at the very top of the RootsChat webpage - look to the right of your username..

The best way to find out more is with that possible marriage cert to see if it fits. If it's correct it will give you clues to work back one more step..

you mentioned in another thread that your Behan's may have come from Calverstown - a possible connection there in 1911 :

Behan household - Calverstown Demesne (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kildare/Ballyshannon/Calvertstown_Demesne/537200/)

back to Clare/Clear - quite a bit earlier than your Clare family, but there are a number of possible connections in Co. Kildare on the 1911 census - e.g.

an Andrew Clair - in Straffen (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kildare/Straffan/Newtownmacabe/539636/)

A Soldier surname of Cleare in the Curragh barracks (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Kildare/Kildare/Curragh_Military_Camp/546079/) with his wife and children

and 17 people with the surname Clare (http://census.nationalarchives.ie/search/results.jsp?census_year=1911&surname=clare&exact=&firstname=&county=Kildare&townland=&ded=&age=&sex=&relationToHead=&religion=&education=&occupation=&marriageStatus=&marriageYears=&childrenBorn=&childrenLiving=&birthplace=&language=&deafdumb=&search=Search&sort=townlandSort&pageSize=100)

Working back from the marriage might show a link to one of these housleholds

probably a generation or two before your Kathleen...  but worth keeping a note of while you gather more details.

I recently photographed most of the old section of St Michaels, Athy, and find I have no photo of Behan or Clare.

There is a record of a Clare headstone in Allen graveyard in Kilmeague
Esther Clare; Littletown Robertstown
8/2/1963 (aged 54)
husband-James; 14/7/1969 (67)
son-James; 26/3/2001 (57)
---
There are also a lot of Behan headstones there, in the old section, which is the only section I photographed,
--
I have a transcribed record from the same graveyard, and may be from the 'new' section.

Patrick Behan; 23/6/1949 (77) Ballintine
Patrick Domican; son-in-law

(erected by dtr-Kathleen)

the first child was probably born before the marriage - then the registration would be under the mothers surname. Occasionally births were not registered, or registered very late - so might turn up in the index a few months later than expected..

I think if you could make contact with Celtic Damsel, who has very good knowledge of Athy, and also has good contact with the caretaker of St Michaels cemetery, and he might have details of the burials you are looking for.

Now that you've made a few posts you can try sending a message via the PM (Personal Message) system but you'll just have to wait for a response.
