I am trying to find information on my maternal grandfather norman abraham allen/allan. He came to australia in the 40s or early 50s i presume. Norm and betty must have married before 1954 when my mum was born :) maybe lol. I can find no information on norm, but mum tells me he was from county cork and had a sister joan. Betty (who changed her last name to ramsdale) died in 1995 and norm died a couple of years later in melbourne, they were no longer married. I believe they also gave a son up for adoption before my mum was born, but have no idea how to find information on that either. Any help would be most welcomed, cheers, julie :)

Hi Julie,
Would this be your grandfather's probate notice in the paper?
Norman Abraham Harold ALLEN late of South Yarra appeared 14th February 2006 in The Age?

You can legally apply for copies of their death certificates.
Victorian death certificates are only restricted from public access for 10 years.
So, Betty's is available now & Norman's after 21/11/2012 which will give you information about their marriages, children etc.
You do not need to provide identity documents or third party authority if the death occurred more than 10 years ago.

Thats awesome, thankyou :) i have bettys death cert, but there was no mention of when they were married or of the adopted son, just previous marriage to norman allen. Betty was born 16th sep 1929 to jane rusk and harold goulbourne hangan. But i will order norms as soon as i can. Im just really wanting to know where he was from, and his irish relatives. Thanks again, julie :)
