I'm looking for our Mary (Maria) Rorke born 1837 Queens Co. Ireland. Married John (Johannes) Telford from Westmeath 18 July 1858 and they moved to Lancashire, travelling to USA at least twice.
Also looking for anything before this about John Telford.
Thanks

Hi there,
Do you have their father's names from the marriage cert ?
Where did this couple marry ?

Hi Santel,
I have notice that you have had help with this family - Telfords in particular on different boards here in Ireland and England.
You are going to need to link them all together - as we don't want to be looking for information for you that you already have.
Thanks

Link to previous related thread : TELFORD in Westmeath Co (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,510491.0.html)
santel - you mentioned a possible marriage can you post some details of this ?
i.e. type of record (civil or parish), location, residences for the bride and groom, any details of occupations, father names etc..
I'm guessing it's a RC parish record as you've included Latin versions of the names..

They were married at St Peters, Athlone(n), Westmeath, Ireland 26 July 1858. I don't have the certificate - found this info from some obscure website - how do I go about getting the cert?
Also, how do I link these queries to the previous thread? Should I have just gone in there and add to that?
Thanks

that marriage seems to be in the Civil BMD Index as Tedford, so non-Catholic or possibly registry office since it's before 1864. Here are the references you need to order a cert :
Name: John Tedford
Registration district: Athlone
Event type: Marriage
Year: 1858
Volume number:1 / Page: 429
a Mary Rork appears with the same references.
A research cert should show further details to help the search - current residences for the bride & groom, father's names and occupations etc

for the moment lets keep this thread to Rorke and the marriage in Westmeath, and work back from there when you get the cert.
It's better to keep queries in one thread to avoid overlapping research. I've added a link to the previous Westmeath thread on Telford.

there are several extracted versions of that marriage on FamilySearch which give some of the details - bride's father John Rork, groom's father James Tedford, plus the name of the church on 26 Jul 1858 (just spotted you have 2 different dates posted...). There are also two versions in Latin, which also mention St. Peter's..
As in the case of many towns and cities, the parish names are used by RC and CofI, and this case is an example of that. The part of Athlone to the east of the river Shannon is part of the RC parish of St. Mary's and also the Church of Ireland parish of the same name. The part of the town to the west of the Shannon was the RC and also CofI parish of St. Peter.
The fact that this marriage was included in civil records and a parish is mentioned, would suggest Church of Ireland.
