I'm trying to find the parents of Archibald Albert F Simmonds, b1902, Wick Littlehampton, Sussex, England. In 1911 he is living with grandmother, Anfled Simmonds. It's of interest because his son, Allen Robert Farquahar Simmonds, died in the World War 2 Bombing of Petworth Boys School.
Cheers,
Mike

The only sure way is to get his birth certificate :)

As suggested by danuslave, a copy of the birth cert would certainly solve the problem.
In the meantime, the 1901 and 1881 census indexes suggests in 1866 Anfled (nee Ayling) Simmonds of Littlehampton married Philip A Simmonds (sometimes indexed as Alfred, who died 1911). They had five sons including a Montague (b c1876) who was still with the family in 1901. Presumably the father of your Archibald was one of those five.
The family appear on the 1881 census in East Preston as follows.
Head Simmonds P A 1847 of Folkestone. wife Simmonds A 1842 of Littlehampton.
Children: Harry 1868, Arthur W 1870, Walter G 1871, Ada 1874, Alfred M 1876, Philip P 1880.
An Anthony S------- on Genes Reunited seems to have researched this family extensively.

A Public Tree on A...y has his father as Philip Percy Simmonds who married an Edith Bennett.

If Philip Percy Simmonds was Archibald's father as the other website says, it may help explain why Archibald was living with his grandmother in 1911. Archibald was born in 1902 and Philip only married Edith in 1903, so Edith may not have been his mother. In 1911, Philip (indexed as Percy) and Edith still lived locally, and by then they seem to also have 3 legitimate children.

Thank you all for your input,
I received the birth cert today and to my surprise the mother was not married. I gather that's why I had a tough time trying to connect the dots.
Cheers
Mike.
