Hi
I'm looking for any information on my great uncle Mark Evans, he was born in Toddington, Bedfordshire, England, in December 1907....i believe he emigrated to Australia in 1922 aged 15 yrs.....I'm not sure where he went upon his arrival in Australia, but i think he settled in the Wallsend/ Newcastle area of NSW..... He married Margaret Brooks in 1933.....and he later went on to serve in the Australian army in WWII.....I do have one very small photo of him, but i'd love to find out more....

Searching the NSW BDM for 1933 - 1981 (latest available there) we find
14346/1963 EVANS THOMAS MARK father THOMAS mother LOUISA EAST MAITLAND
31537/1966 EVANS MARK PATRICK father FRANCIS TASMAN mother MARGARET MARY LIVERPOOL
33609/1961 EVANS MARK WILLIAM father JAMES FREDERICK mother SHIRLEY IRENE ROCKDALE
2510/1950 EVANS ALEXANDER MARK DAVID LOUISA ISLINGTON
80819/1974 EVANS MARK GEORGE WILLIAM ANN
Of these, Islington is an inner Newcastle suburb and East Maitland while not in Newcastle is in the Hunter Valley region about 40 miles from Newcastle. (Rockdale is a Sydney suburb and Liverpool is an outer Sydney area.)
Do you know if he had another forename? Or his parents' names?
Also, for more recent deaths, you could look at the Ryerson Index. http://www.ryersonindex.org/

And if he served in the Australian Army in WW2 you should be able to get his record.
See the Australian Resources board for details.

In the electoral roll for 1936 Mark Evans (no other given names), labourer, and Margaret Ann Evans (home duties) were listed in the Hunter District of NSW(which includes Newcastle) at Brown St, Cardiff.

Mark & Margaret Ann EVANS, living at 79 Brooks St, Wallsend in 1980. Which was the same street listed on his WW2 records but they were living at number 37 then.

Following on from Merlin.....
In 1937 they are both listed at 37 Brook St, Wallsend (in the Hunter district).
They are still there in 1943, 1949, 1954, & 1958.
By 1963 they are at 79 Brook St, Wallsend, and with them is probably a son. He may still be living so I can’t post his name on the thread.
By 1968 Mark and Margaret are still there.
PM coming.

I'v just crossed paths with your thread looking for Mark Evans. He's my great uncle as well. I found his Army papers giving his Date of birth 19/12/1907 and his address which you already had. Did you ever get in touch with his family.
Malcolm.
