Title: Marriage certificate decipher help please- COMPLETED
Post by: Noells on Thursday 23 August 12 04:33 BST (UK)
Hi

Can any please read the name of the father of the bride?

Her surname was Patten but I can't read her father's first name. It has been transcribed as Phillip Patten but it does not look like Phillip to me.

Grooms surname was Prime, his father Jacob Prime.
thanks in advance

Is this the marriage of Charlotte Patten to George King Prime? If so, just to be aware that there is a substantial tree covering the families (more so the Prime family) on the Ancestry website.

I would guess Simon also - the 'S' looks the same as the on on Stepney in the line above - and is the address Single 'Rd'. .?

1841 Census
Cole Green,
Brent Pelham, Hertfordshire
HO107/443/14/Brent Pelham
Sarah PATTEN, 48, Farmer
Willm Patten, 20, Farmer
CHARLOTTE Patten, 14
Mary PRIME, 4
Jacob Prime, 7
Betsy BARKER, 20, Female Servant
All NOT born in County

So 2 of George King Prime's Children from his 1st Marriage are with their Grandmother in 1841.

Marriage;
George PRIME/Susn PATTEN, 12 June 1832, Langley, Essex
(F/S.Org)

I cant find a Christening for Susan to Simon/Sarah though c 1813 according to the 1851 Census.

Looks like Mary/Jacob may have been enumerated twice in 1841, wth Sarah Patten and with George/Susan Prime;
HO107/327/5/Langley

Wow!  Thanks to everyone.

As you all guessed it is the marriage of George King Prime to Charlotte Patten. Because of the incorrect transcription in ancestry I had been searching for Charlotte on family search with a father called Phillip Patten.

I have now had a look at the public member trees on ancestry. Interesting to note that some of them show her parents as Thomas Key and Mary Godfrey. At least we know from the certificate that Simon Patten is her father.

The next thing to find out is whether George King Prime's first wife Susan Patten is the sister of Charlotte Patten. I was thinking that maybe he married her after Susan died so that he had someone to look after all those children. The census records Trish found are a great help for me.

Thanks again

Sarah Patten is buried next to Simon close to the door of Langley church. They are almost the only gravestones left standing, the rest having been cleared. She was a churchwarden at nearby Brent Pelham. A later descendant, John Patten, was probably the last and biggest steam plough contractor in the country having 13 sets left at the auction in 1960, extremely late one would think. I am a Patten.

Hi Sarah

I was contacted by U3A Nunawading to say you were looking for me. Sorry to cause some problems for you. I spent the latter half of 2014 and the first 7 months of 2015 in and out of hospital in Melbourne, Oz.

Subsequently sold our Melbourne house and have just moved into a lovely home in Ballarat, Victoria. I have been without the internet for several months. We finally had our internet connected one week ago and I am slowly working my way through to amend our email address etc.

Hi also Miss Moppet thank you for your information, as it was 2012 when I was researching the Pattens, I will have to find my records and get back to you. Might take some time - we have 90 removal boxes to unpack.

Hi Noells,

I am sorry to hear that you have been so poorly, I do hope that you are now much better - how dreadful.

I had spotted that your email notifications had stopped working so tried to find you just to let you know and found that you were an active member of the U3A.

Regards

Sarah
