Title: Marriage records lookup request
Post by: caliope on Thursday 23 August 12 00:09 BST (UK)
I am trying to find out who my g x 4 grandfather's fathers are and am keeping my fingers crossed that it might be on his marriage record (???).  His name is George DAVIS.  He married Jane BUNDY on 17 Nov 1828 evidently at Downton.  Any hope there?

The other is Daniel HARRIS, who married Ann MUSSELL on 21 May 1836, also supposedly at Downton.

Both of these guys are my brick walls, both lived and died in Redlynch.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated and thank you in advance for your time!

Unfortunately - fathers names were not shown on marriage entries prior to 1.7.1837

Sometimes the witnesses are family names, I'll have a look for you next time I go to WSRO if nobody else has beaten me to it.

Do you know if the marriages were after banns or by licence?  If by licence there might be a marriage licence bond, these can be very revealing.

I presume you have traced both couples through the censuses and not found them living with an aged parent.  But assuming they didn't die before the 1851 census you should have an approximate birth date, was neither man baptised?  Or are there multiple candidates?

best wishes
Jane :-)
