I am attempting to track my grandmother's roots and am drawing a blank. Winifred Emily Knight was born around 1883 in Kent Wye? and married my grandfather William Frederick Huntingdon in Sheffield around 1907. The moved to Canada in 1929. Your assistance would be appreciated.

Hi
Have you tried looking on www.freebmd.org.uk for the marriage and births?
The 1911 census is free to search on Ancestry at the moment too so have a look on that and you may get much more information about them.

Hi,
I am just wondering if you have your grandmother's marriage certificate. This would provide her father's name, which may help.

I'm not sure what you mean about drawing a blank - Free BMD has a lady of that name born in September quarter 1882 East Ashford so def too late for the 1881 census.
The marriage was registerd in December quarter 1907 Sheffield.
Check them out for yourself at http://www.freebmd.org.uk
You can then look at the 1891 and 1901 censuses for Emily and the 1911 for the couple together. You would need access to a census site for this. Checkout your own library to see if they have free access to Ancestry as many libraries do.

There is a Tree on Ancestry which gives Winifred Emily's parents as Charles Knight born in Hull in c 1857 and a Jane Head born in "Marsham" Kent in c 1860.Charles and Jane married in Romney Marsh District Kent in 1881.It is borne out by the 1891 Census.
