William Bernard Knott. I am trying to locate an obituary for my uncle and aunt. He died in Nokomis, Sarasota, Florida 19 Feb 1979. He migrated to USA from England in 1949 with wife Constance who died June 1994. The address given on her SSDI was 10989 Valley Cottage, Rockland, New York. They had two daughters both of whom were born in England and were naturalized along with their parents in 1955. If I purchase a copy of the SSDI will I learn any more useful information. I would be grateful for any help and advice. Thanks in advance. Shalaj

Hi ShalaJ,
Have you tried to find a public library in the area which may be able to help you with an Obituary ?
As I understand it - the file contans the following information
This file includes the following information on each decedent, if the data is available to the SSA:
Last name - First name - Social Security Number - State issued
Birth date - Death date - Last residence - Lump sum payment

Are you looking for information about their parents/birth? You can order the original Social Security application, as explained towards the bottom of this page - http://rwguide.rootsweb.ancestry.com/lesson10.htm This page shows what information is contained on it - http://genealogy.about.com/od/online_records/a/ss5_request.htm

Hi Sandra, I live in Australia and am not sure what information I would find if I purchased a copy of the SSDI. I am trying to track down my two cousins from this marriage and had hope that an obituary might give me their married names.
Regards

Re Obituaries for William Bernard Knott and his wife Constance. I have all their details from England. I am hoping to find an obituary in Nokomis, Sarasota, Florida, for either of their deaths that would lead me to the married names of their two daughters. Not sure how to navigate through the records in Florida.

The SSDI doesn't have any information similar to obituaries. Most obituaries are not online. Your best bet would probably be to contact the local library where they last lived and see if they would be willing to do a look-up for you.

Many thanks for the advice. Had hoped that there would be an archive of newspapers that I could access. Will try the library. Thanks again
