Hi

Does the death record have an RCE recorded next to it or does it apply to one of the other two records ? (you'll only get this from the actual image) If it's the one relating to your gt gt grandfather, go to the top of the screen and click on the RCE button and you will see a copy. If there is no RCE next to his death entry on the actual image then don't as it won't apply to his record and is a waste of credits.

All the death records for Scotland are on Scotland's People so if he died in Scotland then it will  there.  Perhaps you could post the details of the death and we can establish whether there is a record or not?

Ann :D

What was his usual address?

What county was the death registered?

It is there, and it's the only one for 1882 in whole of Scotland.   Perhaps you mixed up the surname and christian name :)
On Google map, search Yett Road, Lanarkshire.    To the N.E. of this on the map, you will see Legbrannock Rd, going over water to join Church street.  Go to street view on the water and you will see the bridge.    A slight stumble and you would be over the wall.

Would Legbrannock be in New Monkland at that time?

The death was registered in the Landward of New Monkland.  His address was Crosshead, or Wester Muirhead .  Legbranock was in Bothwell at that time.  Now I'm wondering if I found the right Yett Bridge.

I also have an address of Legbranock in 1855 which was registered in Holytown in the Parish of Bothwell.

I think it's old map time.

In 1881 he was living in Burnside Cottage , New Monkland.  I'll see if that address is easier to find later on.

I see a Muirhead in Bothwell.

I also saw on a modern Google terrain map- Burnside Road, and Muirhead Dr. to the left and right of the where the bridge would be. Obviously not there in the 1880's but roads named after placenames of long ago.

Burnside Cottage seems to have been in the Glenmavis area of New Monkland and on the modern map there is a Yetts Hole Road

I will go and look at that now before I start cooking. :)  Would you like me to send the certs in case I have missed something? I've  been snatching 5 mins at a time all day. Not conducive to good research. ::)

Hello Irishseeker,
Found a match on ScotlandsPeople for William Wedlock by just entering his name & year of death. Try leaving out his year of birth. (I didn't know birth year or place of death so left them blank)
'Tootsiepie' has already posted a reminder about surname first then Christian name. (Easy to forget if you are moving between other sites like Ancestry & ScotlandsPeople) Also check you have clicked on Deaths in the Statutory Registers down left side of page. Heading should be Statutory Deaths 1855 - 2013.
     Good luck with your search.
               Regards,     Dod.

PS. Has there been a wee slip of the fingers somewhere because, with reference to 'bleckie's' post, if William was 70 when he died in 1882, his birth year would be 1812 not 1821.

I have attached a newspaper article which relates to William's death. The article is from The Scotsman - Tuesday 24 January 1882. Your post helped me confirm that Crosshead was also known as Wester Muirhead.
