Post by: hencarrai on Wednesday 15 August 12 12:54 BST (UK)
Hi,
please can someone decipher the attached section/
This is from Bapt Record from Merthyr Tydful, 1813.
First column is Surname (Thomas), 2nd col is Abode, 3rd col is Trade.
Many thanks,
Rob

Occupation: Wallr (Waller, a maker of walls)

Occupation: Haller perhaps? Or perhaps not as it should be spelled Hauler ...  ;)

With Geoff on this one, I think it is most likely "waller"

I have a maltster a few years later, and I find it quite impossible to make maltster out of this entry. Sticking with "waller"

Thanks everyone.
I'll go with Waller.
Can't find a Pwllwhud in Glam, but I guess it was a farm.

The place name could be this.

PWLLHELI (Gwy) Pwllhely (1292). Meaning: WELSH pwll ‘pool' and heli ‘brine'. The personal name Helig is a less probable alternative.

Thanks Dave,
No it's not Pwhelli which is in 'the far corner' of Wales.
The bapt is in Merthyr Tydful, Glamorgan.
Pretty sure it will be a farm in Glam but can't find anything close to Pwllywhud.

Probably not,but this comes up in an 1841 address search:
Pwllywhead, Merthyr Tydfil

Yes that's the place Maureen, correct spelling is (I think) Pwllywhiad. It means Ducks Pond /pool.
I found the following via google.

Many thanks everyone for your help.
