the death gives a birth date of 1884 so he lived a long life then.
Was he always in that area ?
Do you have his marriage cert with fathers name?

I think the George Pettifer born in Windsor may have been killed in WW1.
George Pettifer born in Windsor appears on the Soldiers Died in the Great War index as having died 26/8/1918. Cross-referenced with CWGC this man has a sister Mrs Alice Williams.
Alice M Pettifer married Herbert Williams in Aston district in 1914
Alice Pettifer isn't with George's family in 1901, but shown as a niece in another household (in Reading), aged 9.
There is only one George Pettifer and one Alice Pettifer birth registered in Windsor district between 1870-1910

Did he marry Lily Moorhen (lovely name :) ) ?
This marriage was registered in Maidenhead district 1907.
If you use the advanced search option to do a free search of the 1911 census here:
http://fmpbsol.1911census.co.uk/
entering the name George Pettifer and occupation 'baker' you will a person fitting this description living in Eton.

If that is the one, then in 1891 he is shown as born Fawley, Buckinghamshire (which is very close to Henley-on-Thames) and living with his Uncle and Aunt (Robert & Eliza GODFREY) in Rotherfield Greys.
I can't find a birth for him though >:(
Edit:
No birth for PETTIFER (and variants) in Henley 1880 - 1890 (Henley was the reg district for Fawley at that time). I did the same search for Wycombe just in case - same result. There are parish records available for Fawley via Bucks FHS, so it may be worthwhile posting on the Bucks board to see whether someone has a copy.

Think his marriage cert is needed before you can go any further
