Title: martin moran death and birth please
Post by: feesca1 on Tuesday 14 August 12 15:21 BST (UK)
Hi there I wonder if someone could help me please I am looking for a birth and death for a Martin Moran his wife was called Mary Mahoney but on marriage search the surname is spelt Marney.  They got married in 1901 in Middlesbrough.  On the 1911 census I have found his wife Mary and children Sarah ann, Nellie ( my grandmother) and Mary also on the census it states married for 9 years so that would be around 1910 or 1911 he died. It looks on the census that it states Mary Moran is a widower.  Any help would be appreciated at the time they lived at 25 Stockton Street Middlesbrough.  There was a story going around the family that he died in a train crash but don't know if this is true.

1882 Middlesbrough it might be for his birth but don't think death at South Shields matches.  Also I think he worked as a train driver would be interesting to see if I could find him 1901 census in Middlesbrough.  As the story goes he was a train driver between Darlington and Middlesbrough and there was a train derailment as they left Darlington but had a  look there also and can't find a death.  But would he of been registered there as his family lived in Middlesbrough.  Also does anyone know where I could find out about the train crash.  As that might give me a better idea.  Thank you

Hello,

1901 has a Martin Moran with parents Patrick and Ellen born and living in Middlesbrough.
He is born abt 1879 in Spennymoor and is a labourer.
I just thought that as they named their second girl Nellie, she may be named after her grandmother.
The marriage certificate may be needed to confirm Martin's father's  name.

regards
heywood

Hi there Heywood the girl called nellie on the 1911 census is called Ellen she was my grandmother but everyone use to call her nellie.  It could be the same one as there oldest daughter was called sarah ann and her grandmother Mary Mahoney mam was Sarah ann also so the second oldest child Ellen could of been named after her grandmother.
