Hi my family is from Island Magee, and I'm having a devil of a time getting back some in the records from stateside. I'm starting to think I ought to be checking in Scotland.
Particularly I'm searching for parentage of one Ellon McWhinney (1777-1829) wife of Samuel McIlhaggo (1780-1837). I'm told he erected a gravestone to her in the local graveyard which spells her last name MeWhinney but I don't know if he was literate. Regardless I've tried all combinations possible of these names, up to and including 'Helen' just in case, and nada.
Also, I've no clue who Samuel's mum is, but his dad was a gent named James McIlhaggo and he had a brother James who was born 1778. Also one named William birthdate unknown.
And lastly, Arthur Forbes (1798-1873) is my G times many grandfather, and I can't find his folks either, though I found his will and it's rather amusing. He admonishes his executor that his wife Catherine is to have the balance in the Larne bank, providing she bails no one out with it! :P
Arthur's Catherine is the daughter of the previously mentioned Ellon and Samuel, and lived 1806-1882.
Any assistance getting parentage of these folks would be highly appreciated.
Cheers,
Arte!

Hi,
Have you checked the McIlhagga family site?
Do you have a Forbes/McCalmont family connection in Islandmagee?
Martha Forbes married James McCalmont in 1901 & they had a son Samuel McIhagga Forbes McCalmont in 1902.

Hi I'm enquiring whether you have details of the will of Arthur Forbes and if so could I get a copy of it from you. Also do you have any other info regarding Arthur's background i.e his parents or siblings?
Looking forward to your reply
