Hello everyone,
Does anyone know about the parents and/or wife of David Ramsay, the Scottish communist in the 1920s? I know he lived at one stage with Helen Hendry but I don't think they married. Also anyone know where he was born? I think it was Edinburgh but I'm not sure ???
Thanks, (he is my great great grandfather),
Ryan :)

Possibly died Leicester 1962 ?
There is a David A Ramsay death 1962 Leicester on freeBMD but this gives his age as 57 which , if correct , would I think be a bit young :-\
Do you have any dates for your ancestor ?

Thanks for the quick reply :) Yes I have read that link- very helpful and the image is on my fridge ;D
Yes he died in Leicester as my family is from there (I was born there) :) I agree that the dates are off because he attended the Second Congress of the Communist International in 1920 and I have a picture of him there- he looks to be in his 20s

Who did he marry?

I'm not sure, my great uncle gave me the info and he doesn't know

yes that is him :) A very opinionated man!

Have you searched for him in the 1911 census?
I cannot find her in any previous censuses. There are quite a few Ramsay men marrying a Helen in that time period. I note there was a David Ramsay from Coalville in the WW1 records. Could these Ramsays be your relatives? I also checked telephone directories & found addresses for a G.Ramsay & a Mrs H.Ramsay in Coalville. Perhaps local newspaper archives could shed a light on these people.

Hi RJM,
On SP, there is a marriage of David Ramsay to Nellie Hendry in 1902 at Tradeston, Glasgow, Lanarkshire. This could be downloaded from http://scotlandspeople.gov.uk, cost £7 for 30 credits, will cost you 1 credit for search , then 5 credits to download it. This should give you parents.
Tom
PS Can the David that ev found as died in Leicester in 1962, aged 57 not be his son David,?

Sorry for posting the 1911 census details.I am used to seeing the Scottish ones & only recently discovered that, unlike the others, I am allowed to quote them.
I think the David that died in Leicester is the son of the Mrs.Helen Ramsay (who hails from Sanquhar,Dumfries). Her son was born c1905 in Glasgow.
Hope this helps,
flst
P.S. She could be Nellie, in which case Tom you're on to something. David would be most likely be their son!

Thanks for all the help :) Yes David had a son David Allen who did die around that time because his wife, born 1906, remarried in 1965 in Leicester. I don't know about a G and H Ramsay in Coalville- I will look into it :)
And thanks for the link,
Ryan :)

Hi Ryan
I was interested to read that you have a photo of David ramsay. I'm writing a book about Leicester in WW1. Strikes are a bit part of it, and I would like to use a photo of Ramsay if possible. Would you be able to help me please?
Many thanks
Matthew
