Post by: pipscwic on Thursday 09 August 12 13:03 BST (UK)
Can anyone help read the address where this pc was sent from. Also is it possible to date it.
The picture on the front says  "BATHING ENCLOSURE DURBAN"

:-\ I thought perhaps Grimston or Graniston but I can't see such a place in Durban, there is a Germiston

Yes, it probably is Germiston, although that's nearer to Jo'burg than to Durban.

GSJ were major producers of postcards in Durban around the turn of the century - as this is their 'no 3', I guess it may be of the bathing pool in Durban, is that right?  Their cards were sold in all major towns in SA at the time, so it could easily have been bought in Germiston.

It seems to be an enclosed part of  a beach, what looks like a curved pier like structure.

Found another postcard, same handwriting

On the Rand                          Simmer & Jack G.M.C.
Braune & Levy, Johannesburg no.1518

It is of an industrial scene and on the back is written.
Here is a picture of the largest battery in the world. there are thirty more stamps in it than any other in the world.
This holds more clues as to the date, it is between 1901 and 1911, going by the name and address of the recepient.
Tried googling but no luck, can anyone suggest what it could be.
Or can anyone more conversant with copyright tell me if I am allowed to put it on here.
Thank you

Hi, Regarding the date I would suggest a date between 1907 and 1914. This is a divided back postcard which came in about 1907 and the fact that it is "Made in Germany" usually means it is before 1914.
Good Luck
