Could someone please tell me where I would start to search my ggggparents in Poland?
Peter Von Snarski was born approx 1837 to Roman Von Snarski and Anna Von Kupecki maybe in Warsaw with perhaps royal connections and Roman could have been a Colonel in the Tsar's army. Just have no idea where to begin the search. Peter may have gone to university. Sorry I do not have much to go by. Any ideas on where to begin searching in Poland would be gratefully received. Thanks

Researching polish records on line is a nightmare unfortunately, I am attempting to do the same myself, but it seems the only way to get information is to travel to Poland in person, as hardly any information is available on line. I am also looking for 'Kupecki' family records, as this is my grandfathers surname (how I stumbled across this post). He came over the Britain around WW2, and beyond that hardly any information is known.
If you ever manage to find anything out I would love to know what and where from.
Thanks

Hiya Mr Moose .....and welcome to Rootschat ...my father in law - name Kabluckyj .....I have done quite extensive research about him and I found that
Poland - Ukraine ....if ( and I hope he wasn`t ) your Grandfather was born in "the strip " - it will be very difficult .......... evidently there is a 40 mile strip on the border of Poland and Ukraine which has changed hands several times ...so Polish - then Ukraine - then Poland - then Ukraine etc etc etc ...so
my Father in law born 1927 in Rogatyn,Ukraine which is Rohatyn ,Poland 13 years later ....so Town spellings change as well......
do you know what village / town , your grandfather was born in ??
and maybe you should start your own thread naming your grandfather ( not if he is still alive )
his date of birt etc and maybe we can find him

Hi,
I find 2 links re Snarski, although without von but still nobles family, read about "von" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Von
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murdelio
Murdelio is a heraldical stamp for few families (also Snarski), came from Croatia with a knight in 1450.
Snarski family also used Ciolek (if Snarski's family was somehow connected with king Stanislaus Poniatowski = there is your connection).

Cannot find anything re Kupecki (in gail..... there is a Kupiecki (maybe in your case "i" was dropped?

I thank everyone for their help not only for me but the many others trying to break down walls on their tree.
After doing more research I have found Peter Sznarski was not born to Roman but to Jakub Sznarski and his wife Anna Krupecka in Radzyn Chelminski in 1837, despite certificates having Roman as his father. The parents were married that same year, but not sure of who their parents were.
Where would I enquire to send for a birth certificate from this area, Radzyn Chelminski?
Many thanks

Radzyn Chelminski = Rehden in german
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radzy%C5%84_Che%C5%82mi%C5%84ski
The EZAB in Berlin should have records from the period you are looking for
https://ezab.de/english/index.html
Rehden is listed on their parish register

This polish site is in progress of publishing the records of Radzyń Chełmiński
baptisms and marriages 1792-1845
I donīt know when the records will be going online. You could try mailing them
https://www.genealogiawarchiwach.pl/archiwum-front?locale=en
start browsing and then enter Sznarski on the left
Jacobus Sznarski , Anna Krupicka are listed

Registry offices started up in about 1874.
There are a few records online for Peterīs siblings, have you got them?
i.e.

So - are YOU in Australia ??
Peters wife Elisabeth
https://austcemindex.com/inscription?id=8294656
............................................................................
and Francy Von Snarski 1891 - 1916 ...but is Francy male or female - and is it a child of Peter or a grandchild ??
do you have any info on Francy ?? just curious :)
ADDED
if you know anyone on My Heritage - it states "4 Records Found for francy von snarki"
my Father in Law was born in Ukraine 1929 in a town named Rohatyn - there is a stretch of land about 40 miles wide that has been Poland /Ukraine/Poland/Ukraine .he was born in that 40 mile stretch ..in Polish his town was spelt Rogatyn - I do know names ending in ski = from the valley :)

Thanks garstonite for helping me and being intererested in these names. Greatly appreciated.
Yes thanks I am in Australia. Francesca von Snarski was my grandmother, daughter of Peter von Snarski and Elizabetha koob nee Sheer.
It gets confusing as Elizabetha's gravestone states she was buried with her husband Theodore Vaughan who definitely wasn't her husband but her son in law. It makes you wonder how that could occur. Theodore's wife was alive and well, but not close by, in another part of the state.
And yes, despite Peter von Snarski having Rouman Snarski as his father and Anna Kupecki on his marriage as well as his death certificate, I cannot find anything in the polish records to indicate that; however I did find, and the dates align, his birth to a Jakub Sznarski and Anna Krupecka so am assuming that they are the correct parents. It is hard to believe that a marriage certificate would be incorrect, as Peter was only 52 at that time in 1889 but as mentioned I cannot find any marriage to a Rouman Snarski and Anna Kupecki.
Am not sure what else to do, apart from keeping on searching for Rouman and Anna.I have joined Ancestry and MyHeritage so maybe something might come up there.

Frankly - there are more Snarski in Ukraine than Poland .....and there is a 40 mile stretch on the Polish /Ukrainian border that switches from Poland to Ukraine to Poland to Ukraine etc ...have you considered looking on
https://www.ukraine.com/forums/forum/personals/genealogy
free site to join - might be worth asking on a thread if anyone has any Snarski / Von Snarski ancestors ...you never know ?????
good luck

Thanks so much for that. Will definately check it out. You never know. :)

National Technical University of Ukraine - Citado por 2.050 - percolation - 1/f ... A.A. Snarskii; A. Snarski; А.А.Снарский; A.A. Snarskij; Andrei A. Snarskii; ...
my father in law born in Rohatyn ,Ukraine in 1929 - Rohatyn has been Polish 3 times - spelt Rogatyn ...you may have to learn how to cook Borsch ....lol
I wonder if they are in Belarus as well ??
quote from a report
Marcin Snarski. Lawyer. marcin.snarski@pcslegal.pl ... from additional countries considered safe epidemically 18.08.2020 Passengers from Ukraine and Belarus ...about passengers during Covid - might be worth sending him an e mail ??? .pl on the end of his e mail suggests Poland to me ??
................................................
check to see if this town is in that 40 mile stretch of Poland /Ukraine - added no - 550km away
Birthdate: June 08, 1932. Birthplace: Hrebinky, Vasyl'kivs'kyi district, Kyivs'ka oblast, Ukraine. Death: Immediate Family: Son of Michał Snarski ...

a quote from a book
" War, was created by Bonawentura Snarski, a teacher from Kielce, who enlisted ... his wife and the staff of the Imperial Royal Army included people connected."
Book is called - Beyond the Trenches
https://library.oapen.org/bitstream/handle/20.500.12657/42355/9783631806753.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y
Snarski seems more popular than you think - I didn't expect so much info on them :)
