Title: looking for someone please
Post by: cranstone on Wednesday 08 August 12 11:00 BST (UK)
Hi

I am trying to help a friend and am looking for information on his father, who he met a few times in later life but never got around to asking about his family.  One lived in Canada and one in Australia so they only had brief times together and he had also remarried.

I wondered if anyone could help please?

His name was Ronald George Lambert, he was born in Birmingham, Engand in 1919 and emigrated with his family at 6 weeks old.

I have found a Ronald Lambert, born in England and departing London to St John,s in New Brunswick
in immigration records but cannot get into them, would someone be able to help please?

We are hoping it gives his parents names etc.,  Ronald died in 1988 in Canada.

Would there be any Canadian census available for his early years?

Many thanks

Hi

That could be the correct marriage as his middle name is Harwood!

I tried looking for a possible marriage and came up with nothing, well done :)

There is an Emily Lambert on an Ocean Arrivals 1919-1924, would this be the same as you have just given me or something different for her, would you be able to take a look for me please if possible?

I tried putting in F H Lambert but nothing seemed to come up for him.

Kind regards

Hi

It was her wasn't it.  Would you have any idea why there are two different arrival dates 28th March and then the 20th March?

Thank you, the second one explains that she is joining her husband so he must have come out earlier.

I will have a look at the other things you sent, thanks again

Ronald's mother's maiden name is given as Harwood. His parents marriage could well be that of a Frank L Lambert and an Ethel Harwood which took place in the Aston District of Warwickshire in the Jan/Feb/Mar quarter of 1918,Volume 6d,Page 828.

Everybody else may have figured this out, but it sounds like:

Frank went to Canada as a Home Child.
He was in England as a member of the Canadian military in WWI and married Ethel there.
He returned to Canada with the military, so doesn't show on passenger lists.
(edit re polarbear's post below -- oops, I just assumed he'd been looked for and not found!)
Ethel had son Ronald in England and then travelled to Canada to join Frank.

There are two Frank Lamberts in Home Child records:
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/home-children/001015-100.01-e.php

Frank Lambert aged 19 arrived in 1911 (so he was born c1892), departing Glasgow 17 Jun 1911, "Domestics & Labourers", destination various locations
Frank Lambert aged 16 arrived in 1913 (so he was born c1897), departing Liverpool 27 May 1913, Middlemore Homes, destination Halifax

From the CEF papers, ours appears to be the younger one.

edit - it does show that not all Home Children lived lives of quiet desperation in Canada. Some chose to come back here after WWI, for example, and prospered (my mother's aunt's husband was another example of that).

A Pte Frank L Lambert returned to Canada after the war on the Regina 19 Sep 1919, landing at Halifax NS. His destination was Debec Junction NB, which appears to match the address on the CEF papers.

If your Frank turns out to be the one from the Middlemore home, his records may be available through Library and Archives Canada under Immigration and Citizenship, Home Children.

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html

You can also order Frank's full military record from the same place. Look under Military, then First World War, then Soldiers of same to find the Attestation papers. You will find instructions for ordering files there also. Price depends on the size of the file and may provide a fair bit of info.

Hi everyone

Many thanks for all the help you have been doing.

Two of my own ancestors were Canadian Home Children and were sent from Barnardo's.  I tried obtaining their records but they wanted £100 each for them and that is way out of my price range.

My friend has his father's army records but thanks for letting me know, I also have one of my guys.

I am saving everything to send to him when I have put it all together nicely.

Many thanks again for all your help and taking the time to help me.

Kind regards

Hi Cranstone,

Father Joseph Lambert seems to have died in 1907 and Mother Agnes in 1909.
Josephine seems to have been taken in by Uncle Tom Lambert. Horace and Frank were with Agnes, husband and children. Joseph the eldest was pursuing a military career.
I did find that Eric Arthur Willison born 1904  (son of Frank's sister Agnes Lambert  and Arthur Ernest Willison) died in British Columbia 31 st May 1968.
Eric was married to Inez Erickson.

Looking for immigration record for him, came across a Canadian Passenger List Avonmouth. England to Quebec on the Sicilian, arriving 10 September 1919. The Willison Family appeared -  Agnes aged adult, Arthur 43 years, Arthur E aged 15 years, Austin aged 11 years, James 10 years and Harold 7 years. All travelling to a Mr Wood - Sifton. Manitoba.
Arthur was a Metal Worker but intended occupation was farming.

Hi Cranstone,

Canada has very strict privacy laws and each province imposes its own even further.  There are no Central registries/indexes in Canada for BMDs - as a guide BMD Records are only available for births more than a 100 years ago, marriages 80 years ago and deaths 70 years ago.

Hi Al,

oops, I had to rewrite this when I finally saw the "(me)" in your first post!

Ordinarily it's advised (in fact, it is a rule) not to put personal info (names, locations) about living people on the boards here.

You can edit that post to remove the info about your other family members. I might just say something like "James and Isabella Willison are my grandparents".

Since you have now added the minimum 3 posts, you can send it to cranstone privately. It sounds like you're family of cranstone's friend, so hopefully you will be in touch. :)

.

cranstone -- glad you found all of Sandra's other info, eventually!
