Possibly Crown Street, which was the main shopping area, but there were a lot of small confectioners shops around, almost one on every street corner.

Falkym, Hello it's been a long time How have you been , would crown street been the closest to 428 was basically at the intersection of Rutherglen and McNeil street And Harrywrag thanks for your input

That location would put it further away from Crown Street and more into the realms of some of the smaller shop units i.e. the "corner shops". Although having said that it was only a 10 minute or so walk along Rutherglen Road and if it wasn't a shop she worked in but a factory there was a Confectionary Factory in Dunmore Street another 5 minute if walking.

Hi there Seamusolong,
My Uncle had a shop on Crown Street in the Gorbals lit by gas. So we are talking about around 1938. I do not know what he sold but it would be the usual newspapers, sweets tobacco etc the shop was probably called Buchanans which was my Uncles surname.
