dear All,
Please can anyone help with this family?
Walter Noel Rees b1887 Merthyr Tydfil married in Ireland 1911
Annetta Valentine Rees Irish
daughter Dorothy Myra Rees don't know birth date or where
son Illtyd Noel Rees born 1913 Sydney Australia
I don't know how long they were in Australia but they seemed to be settled in Canada at least from 1947. However Annetta had died by then.
Can anyone tell me anything about them please.
Walter Noel Rees was the brother of Thomas Clifford Rees in my earlier post.

Thank you once again for all the fantastic information on this family.
Mabel - I have looked at the 'Petts Wood' connection - it was a Walter Noel Rees who apparently was a master builder and built the houses at Petts Wood. But as yet I just can not find that link between that Walter Noel Rees and this one.
The only thing is that his father & grandfather were involved in the building trade. But this one seemed to be an engineer and a 'jet setter'. Any ideas?
I have had good information from the Australian Rootchat too - see link
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=608910.new;topicseen#new
Will now have to sit and collate all the information. But if anyone has any further on the 'Petts Wood' Walter Noel Rees or any other I would be most grateful.
Judy
Thank you very much.

This must be the one I have got:-
1952 May 28 from Southampton arriving New York 2 June 1952 on Queen Elizabeth. Arriving June 2nd 1952
In Transit to Canada.
Walter Noel Rees aged 65. Occupation Engineer. Residing in the UK at 32 Westbourne Park Road. London.
BUT without the Married bit which is quite significant!
I have not got a death for him but feel it must be abroad (not England or Wales) or the time he spends on the Queen Elizabeth maybe 'at sea' ???

Perhaps this may mean purchasing the death certificate - perhaps the daughter would be named as the informant etc ???
Sandra
-
That must be her surely. But why has she got Noel in her name - maybe mistranscribed.
My head is buzzing tonight so shall have to sleep on all of the information. But have put it all in a document so I can see where they travelled in which year.
Thank you.
Judy

Hi Sandra,
Can you just confirm they were all travelling together as on the copy of this I have then I can not see them together.
Haven't done a 'quote before so hope it comes out OK.
Thanks
Judy

Hi there.
There are 2 pages to the passenger record. On the 2nd page E Gorman is given as a rellie in the country from whence came and their destination is to the daughter/sister in Georgia. It is only Walter and his son who are on the ship.
I don't know if this has been mentioned before but you might check if your local library subscribes to Ancestry Library Edition as this should give you access to the images of the records (of passenger lists, at least) that have been posted here, although as you mention you have the record discussed herein, it seems you might have access? In that case just look at the next page :).

Hi Judy,
This is quite surreal but I was just scanning on the internet to find abit more information about my great grandfather and a came across your post, Walter Noel Rees is my great grandfather and Illtydd Rees is my grandfather, his daughter Heather is my mother. I've just shown my gran Marjorie Rees these posts and quite alot of the information posted on here is correct. We are looking to build up our family tree so it would be good to see where your family ties in, and my gran would be happy to help with yours.
Thanks,
Phil

Hi Phil,
Have sent you a personal message so you can get in touch.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Judy
Just a PS to this message Phil - I have to send you a personal message with my e-mail address as any contact e-mails can not be posted on the public site as they get removed.
For you to send a personal message I think you have had to have sent two posts - I am sure the others reading this will correct me if I am wrong.
Judy
-
Hello
I am rather late to the table and assume Phil has given you all the information. I am Noel's daughter Patricia.
-
Hi Patricia,
I have been doing the research for Phil. I have sent you a private message and would love you to get in touch.
Judy
-
Me again Patricia.
Think I may have been talking about the wrong Phil in my private post to you. However I would very much like to share the research with you.

Hi Judy

I have come rather late to this thread.
But the information contained here is fascinating.
Has anyone discovered Walter Noel Rees’ date and place of death?
I assume he died in Canada?
-
This entry in the London Gazette indicates that Walter Noel Rees was made bankrupt in 1936.
And that he was discharged in 1956, one assumes automatically after twenty years.
-
I do believe I may have found Walter Noel Rees’ place and date of death.
On FamilySearch there is a record which shows a Walter Noel Rees, born 1886, who died in hospital in Dublin on 28th December 1962.
I have ordered a copy of the death certificate from the Irish GRO, which should confirm this, or otherwise.
I will post further when I have received this certificate.
-
That would be great. Thank you.
I have this information
Date Dublin 28.12.62 of a heart attack after a reasonably long illness and hospitalization in Swansea.
Are you related to W N Rees
Judy
-
Hi Judy,
No - I am not a relative.
I am a motor racing historian.
Walter Noel Rees owned various important racing cars during the mid 1930s, before his bankruptcy.
I will let you know when I receive the Irish death certificate.
ADAM

That's interesting.
We are very interested in historic cars and some of the ones he owned we have seen at The Goodwood Revival. We always look out for them.
I hadn't realised he was a declared bankrupt.

Hi Judy.
I have sent you a PM.
