Title: Roger Jones
Post by: Sheila2748 on Friday 27 July 12 19:40 BST (UK)
I am looking for the birth of my Great grandfather Roger Jones who was born about 1874.  I think his parents were John and Harriet Jones (nee Ham). I want to get his birth cert, but I found him on 1881 and 1891 cenus and it said he was born in Manchester. But on the 1901 it said he was born in Stafford. So far I have not been lucky getting the right birth. So can anyone help please.  Sheila

The birth is also on www.lancashirebmd.org.uk and if you order via the registrars office you can specify mothers maiden name to ensure you get the right cert

Select Births and turn up the entry

Click on the reference number HUL/168/97

The 1901 entry showing birthplace as Stafford also has a birthyear of 1880 or 1874 but shows him as married.  The image shows an Elizabeth as daughter in law (marriage 1898 to Elizabeth Boardman)

Lots of scribbling over the entries by the enumerator unfortunately

EDIT

Re: 1901 entry - Harriet is shown as b Staffordshire Colwich?? 1856

1891 has both John & Harriet b Leeds Yorkshire.  Definitely the same family as 1881
