Title: Nurses in 1920's Birmingham
Post by: CATZPAW on Friday 27 July 12 11:41 BST (UK)
Hi all
I have a relative BERTIE ALWYN BEAUMONT-THOMAS 1890-1955 born in Cape Town. He came to UK in 1908. He is recorded as living with his aunt HARRIET CUPPLES at 16 Canterbury road Handsworth in the 1911 census, his occupation was recorded as a tailors assistant. He served in the Warwickshire regiment during WW1, I have a copy of his service records.

He married FLORENCE WOOTON (nee HART) in 1922. They had two children, VICTOR EDWARD BEAUMONT-THOMAS 1922-1985 & ALWYN VERNON BEAUMONT-THOMAS 1929-1993.

BERTIE was recorded as still being a tailors assistant on VICTOR EDWARD's birth certificate in 1922 but he later trained as a nursing assistant, I believe, in the mid 20's. He carried on working as a nurse until his death in 1955.

Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain records of the dates of his training and subsequent employment as a nurse. Unfortunately, I have no idea of the names of the hospital(s).

Kind regards
