Good morning listers
I am researching the early history of my English forebears in the Coolac Cootamundra area in New South Wales.
I would like assistance in finding background information about the early settlement in these areas
On 26 October 2012 my family will observe the centenary of the wedding of our grandparents Walter Edward Hoare to Bridget Eileen Maguire at Cootamundra. I wish to write a small commemorative booklet to mark the occasion.
My earliest forebears in the Coolac area were Walter Hoare his Wife Mary Ann Hoare nee Vincent & her parents Charles & Mary Vincent. They all arrived in Sydney on the Ascendant in March 1855. Walter & Mary Ann married in Sydney in June 1855 and travelled to Coolac via Camden. Their first child to be born at Coolac was Joseph (in 1862). Walter died on 24 Dec 1906 & was buried at Cootamundra on 25 December. Mary Ann Hoare died & was buried in Cootamundra in October 1908. Their Grandson Walter (son of Joseph & Charlotte Hoare) was born at Coolac on 21 June 1889 & moved with his parents to Cootamundra in 1892. He married Bridget Eileen Maguire on 26 October 1912. They had seven children of whom three survived babyhood. Bridget Eileen died on 27 July 1973 & Walter died in September 1982. Walter & Bridget are buried in the Cootamundra Cemetery.
In addition I would like to find out if copies of the Baptism Marriage & Funeral registers of the Anglican Parishes of Gundagai/Coolac & Cootamundra are available. This would also help me to see the connection that these families had with the Anglican Church & build a picture of their lives in Cootamundra.
Thanks
Petwal :)

I would contact the local history group. Nothing like local knowledge.... not everything is on the web.

Is this your man? Possibly someone else of the same name.
New South Wales, Australia, Gaol Description and Entrance Books,
Darlinghurst, Date of admission:1855,
Walter HOARE, arrived on the Ascendant, 1854
Birthdate 1808
Height: 5ft 4in
Make: stout
Complexion: fresh
This appears to be in relation to a theft of bread in Sydney, August 1855

Edit to add: unlikely to be the same man if the death date of 1907 is correct!
However, I do not see any one of that name on the Assisted immigrants list for the Ascendant (Mary Ann and her family are there), nor can I see anything else about him, apart from the marriage to Mary Ann.

Dear Listers
Thanks for your help Does anyone have access to the Baptisms of the Anglican Parishes in Gundagai or Cootamundra in the Diocese of Canberra - Goulburn. I am seeking the baptism of my Grandfather Walter Edward Hoare Born Coolac on 21 June 1889. His family moved to Cootamundra in about 1892. His parents were Joseph William & Charlotte Susanna Hoare. All his brothers & sisters were baptised in the Anglican Parishes of Gundagai in Coolac or in Cootamundra.
Thanks
Petwal :)

Hi there Petwal
I am a direct relation of the Vincent family that you have mentioned. My mother and I have done extensive research on the Vincent family in and around the Coolac area. I have alot of research on all the Vincent children including those who went on to Marry into the Hoare family.
Both the Vincent and Hoara family were pioneering families in Coolac. I do have copies of the information on the pioneering families so can send you these as well if you like. This has some information on the families when they first settled.
Are you on ancestry? I can send you the link to see what information I have to see if it will help you at all.

Hi Peter, I have a group photo taken in Rabaul in 1941 by uncle Harry Jeffrey, including Mel Hoare. He is Melville Archie Earl Hoare, born 14 Jan 1913, Gundagai. The men were in the 2/22nd Battalion known as Lark Force. If you do a free search on rslvirtualmemorial site, you will see the photos and details I've put there of him. There is an entry for him on the Coolac Cemetery site, which you might already know about.

Hi Peter, If you go to National Archives of Australia site, naa.gov.au, click on 'name search', then 'record search', then type in VX35707 - his army number (no need to put in name or date) you will be taken to Frank's service record, which is open and free to view. His next of kin was Vivian Maher, sister. I don't know who the parents were, but may get around to my library to check, unless someone does this before me.
Thank you, I would like that photo.
