Title: Assistance with Dutch death certificate note - meaning

Hi there,

I have found the death certificate of an ancestor of mine, Marrigje Jans Thalen, who died aged 81 on 15 June 1871 in Vollenhove, Overijssel.

There is a note in the margin of the death certificate which I have been trying to decipher. This is the result of my efforts so far:

"Een woord doorgehaald waarvoor te lezen dochter goedgekeurd"

Which, according to google translate, means something like this:
"which achieved a word by reading adopted daughter" - which doesn't make much sense!

If anyone could help I would be very grateful.  :)

Beware of literal translations!

I think it means that the informant was the adopted daughter?

Hello, I thought it was something like that as well. However both the witnesses seem to be male - Harm and Jakobus.

Do you know if there's any way to trace a possible adoption?

Thank you, I do use Genlias religiously. I thought she may have adopted a niece or other relative, but I can't trace any siblings which makes that thought a dead-end. I'll access her husband's death certificate to see if there are any clues.

My Dutch is pretty average but I think it means that one word was crossed out and that word was 'daughter.'  The witnesses were not necessarily relatives but it's possible that the word daughter was written by mistake and the margin note is just a clarification of the crossing out.  Is there a word crossed out on the original certificate and if so whereabouts is it?

On the certificate it does have "dogter" crossed out. Is there still a significance with adoptive, could she be an adoptive daughter of the couple mentioned?

I don't know what the word adopted is in Dutch but I don't think it's 'goedgekeurd' or any of the rest of your sentence.  I really think the note only relates to the crossed out word but again my Dutch is not perfect.  My translation would be: "A word has been crossed out which is assumed to be 'daughter.'"

Thank you, that makes sense. I trust you much more than internet translators, which seem to be very often wrong.
