I am really stuck again!I obtained a marriage certificate for my great great great grandfather who was John Bailey born 1829 in Ash,Shropshire. On the marriage certificate it says his father is John Bailey(it could only happen to me) and that he is a tailor now deceased.John himself is 24 and resident of Ashfields,Ash Magna,Whitchurch,Shropshire at the time of marriage which is the 18th July 1853.They were married at the Independant Baptist Chapel in Whitchurch,Shropshire. His wife is Ann Hough-father George-Labourer and I have found this side of the family no problem. The witnesses are George Edge?? and Emma Povah.I know who Emma is also.Any ideas where I could go next with the Bailey side of the family-I cant find any link and I have been trying for ages.I wouild be grateful for any help or ideas??Thank you again.

Not sure exactly what the problem is. I'm assuming you can't find his baptism? But if that is the case, you don't mention where you have looked. As he was married in a non conformist chapel, it is quite possible that he was baptised in a non conformist chapel. There are some nc registers on the genealogist website.

I would like to follow his family back if possible and try and find out if he had any brothers or sisters.I know its a tall order going further back but other than the marriage certificate I know nothing of his siblings, parents or relatives. It would have just been nice to have known thats all.Thank you.

Looking at the 1841 census
There is a John Bailey age 11 living with parents John and Emma Bailey at a place: Futtred Hill, Dawley, Magna, Malins Lee. Shropshire
Theres a John Bailey age 13 living with parents John and Ann at Cold Hatton, Ercall, Magna. Shropshire
These are the only 2 living with a father John Bailey.
I dont know the Shropshire area, could either of these places be Ash?
as Both of these addresses contain Magna are the close?

Probably this fellow:

Ash is right next to the place. Get hold of the original and I'd imagine the residence will be in Ash.

Thank you for that.I will look at that. They were married by a William Bonterns a baptist minister but that came up with nothing either. Not doing very well am I?

in 61, John and Ann are living The Village, Ash Parva, Ann's mother is staying with them Sarah Gough, children George and Eliza.
In 71, they are at Parva Ash, Ash House. Children George born 54 Sarah 63 and Arthur 70.
By 1901 Eliza is now Eliza Welch and Arthur is living in her household.
I was hoping going through census might help provide a clue
ie: Sarah Gough living with them in 61, if only that had been Johns mother!!
The only possible clue is that John and Ann in 41 have a daughter Eliza, ie Johns sister...Did they name their Daughter after her??
-
Yes they had lots of children, many of them died unfortunately but George,Eliza-my great great grandmother,Sarah and Arthur survived.Eliza led a very colourful life as did her second husband. You could make a story out of her!!

Cant find John snr, Ann or John jr in 51??

There is a John Bailey who dies in the Wem district,Shropshire in 1844 so a possible perhaps as father. The John Bailey born 1829 is in Woodhouses,Shropshire as a farm servant I think. It is only a few miles from Whitchurch etc but never been 100% sure.I think I am going to take a chance and get a death certificate for the John Bailey who dies in Wem district. You never know.
-
Bit of a long shot but... the couple were married in 53..the registration district come under Wem, Shropshire
Running a search for John snrs death between 41 and 53, there is only one death registered in the disctric of Wem:
June 1844 wem&c volume 18 page 155.
It might, out of desperation be worth having a look.. as there may be his occupation on there and the name of the informant.
If he was a tailor I would be 99.9% it was the right chap and if the informant was his wife that would clear which of the 2 we were looking at...or maybe another child was the informant??
Maybe you could order it stating you only want it if the deceased was a tailor..I'm sure (correct me if im wrong) that if you stated that and he wasnt they wont charge you..

;D ;D

I am helping a friend who is descended from Eliza Bailey and James Welch, but it doesn`t look as if Mr Pinkwhistle is still on RC . This is an intriguing post, and I would have loved to have known more.

I am the lady who is related to Eliza Bailey and James Welch. If you wish to personally message me I would be happy to help with any information that could help. I have lots and the most amazing true story to tell and found out so much more since I put the post on all that time ago.
