Title: Death of John and Mary LURKIN
Post by: Mitch65 on Thursday 19 July 12 11:49 BST (UK)
Hello everyone

Through Family Search online Norfolk Parish Registers, I have found 2 entries for the death of John Lurkin and his wife Mary:

John Lurkin, buried 20/11/1844 in Wacton (register indicates age at death was 76, so year of birth was +/- 1766)
Mary Lurkin, buried 24/06/1849 in Wacton (register indicates age at death was 71, so year of birth was +/- 1778)

I believe I've found an entry for Mary's death in the BMD registers (Apr-Jun quarter, 1849, Vol 13, Page 35), but I can't find an entry for John's death.  From what I can tell he didn't have a second name that could be substituted, however, his surname could be written in soooooo many different ways:

LURKIN, LURKINS, LUTKIN, LUKTINS (I've even seen FURKIN!) and I guess LARKIN, LARKINS, LATKIN AND LATKINS aren't beyond the realms of possibility either.

There are some entries for John Lurkin/Lutkin/etc, but they are either not in the correct year or not in the right location - the family has lived in Wacton (Depwade district) for many years.

I'd be grateful if fresh eyes could take a look to see if you can find something.  I don't know whether with the burial in November, that the death could be registered in the January quarter of 1845, but I think that might be pushing the 6 week time period just a wee bit.

Thanks in advance

Michelle

I have been looking on freebmd but am wondering whether the deaths for Lu* have been transcribed for this quarter  :-\

The register entry states
John Lurkins
Depwade
Dec qtr 1844
Vol 13 page 40

Hi there

I've called myself to look on Free BMD for all combinations (just Christian name, just surname, various surname spellings, etc, etc) and found nothing, so you've already given me more than I had before - thank you!

I've also looked on Ancestry and found nothing and ditto for Findmypast.  All my relatives seem to be either in pages not yet transcribed or on the page with a huge ink splodge right in the middle of the relevant entry!

Thanks again

Michelle
