I have a great great uncle
Charlie Hall
DOB 30th June 1888 Durham, UK
Died Jan 1969 Durham, UK
However 28th June 1949 he left Liverpool for Quebec
He returned to the UK 5th August 1960 from Quebec
Rumour has it in the family that he married while he lived in Canada - but I am unsure how I can search for any marriage certificates/indexes to look further into this. I know that when he returned to UK in 1960 he traveled alone - so probably divorced or left his Canadian wife in Canada.
Any suggestions please (I am UK myself so I am unfamiliar with any Canadian search tools)
Many Thanks !!

Hello
Checked on An*****y and found the passenger list for Charlie returning to England on ship Sylvania .
The record indicates he was single. Because he came to Canada in 1949 and you do not indicate where he
was living I think it will not be possible to find out if he married. A*****ry records for Ontario marriages go to 1928.
Wonder if he stayed in Quebec? I do not know if there are searchable marriage records for 1949 onward for Quebec. Perhaps someone from the list
might know.
Good luck on your search.

I had found both passenger lists but sorry for not mentioning that.
Once he arrived in Canada I dont know where he went / lived.
Appreciate any more input from anyone if possible.
Thanks

There isn't a central registry for BMD events in Canada as it is a provincial jurisdiction. Privacy laws vary from province to province but generally speaking marriages from less than 75 years ago are protected. As well, incoming Canadian passenger lists (which would most likely have listed his Canadian destination) from after 1935 are protected by privacy laws. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done if you don't know where in Canada he lived.
Here is a link to the Library and Archives Canada page regarding post-1935 passenger lists:

You could try to obtain a copy of his incoming passenger list or immigration records by filing an Access to Information request but you have to have proof that he's been dead for at least 20 years (ie an obituary, picture of a grave marker or death certificate).
