Is anyone visiting the Bristol record office? I am looking for the death of William Charles Trott born 1841 Bristol. On the 1871 census he was living with his wife Elizabeth in Bedminster.
I cannot find where Elizabeth is in 1881, by 1891 she is a widow. So the death must be between 1871 -1891.
Any help in finding his death would be appreciated

Have you found the Crew List for him in approx. 1865? Listed as carpenter on the 'Sir James'
Could be he was on a voyage and died in foreign parts?

Yes, Trish, I had seen that list and he could well have died at sea. The main problem I have is I am having difficulty in finding his wife Elizabeth Trott born 1844 Bristol in 1881.Found one entry that could be her but she is classed as married, also their is a death entry on FreeBMD for a William Trott in 1877.
At this moment I cannot afford to buy a death certificate, so was hoping someone could look up the records at the BRO.
