I should be extremely grateful if SKP would perform a look-up in the 1911 Census for the following family:
TAIT
(Parents forenames/ages/occupation unknown)
Children:
Catherine (age approx 9 years)
Jessie (age approx 7 years)
James (age approx 5 years)
Mary (age approx 2 years)
Residence: possibly Burntisland.

Unfortunately Scotlands People is a pay site so, unless your sister can check on them in Edinburgh (I read your Canadian thread!), you might have to use up some credits.
I used one credit and found that there is only one Catherine/Jessie combination in Burntisland - Catherine (aged 9) has middle initial A.
PS - I think the parents may be James and Jessie C. I'll investigate further.
-
This looks like the parents' marriage -
James Tait married Jessie Cattie Young, 1901. Burntisland
-
The marriage has James's parents as James Tait, merchant seaman (deceased) and Catherine Ann M.S. Catton
This is James with his step father and his mother in 1891:
6 Somerville Street, Burntisland
Alexander Bannatyne, 28 (?), steam ship fireman
Katy Ana, 46, b. Ireland
James Tait, 18, Boilermaker's labourer, b. Burntisland
-
Having problems at the moment with Jessie. The marriage has her parents as William Young (deceased) Farm Grieve and Elizabeth M.S Lathanie (?)*. Born circa 1880
* wonder if it's really a badly spelled Letheney. There are quite a few of those!

Just found this on your US thread, so we've got the correct family :)
Think the one that Shelly refers to above is:-
Catherine Ann Tait -Birth Date: 5 Apr 1902 - Other Country
Died 2 Jan 1991 - San Diego
Mother's Maiden Name: Young
Accoding to SSDI - Last Residence: 91942 La Mesa, San Diego, California.
-
Succumbed and used up a few credits as I was getting nowhere with Jessie:
Birth 12 July 1880
9 Grays Lane
Lochee, Dundee
Jessie Catto Young (illegitimate)
Father - William Young, farm servant
Mother - Elizabeth Lethanie, domestic servant
-
Bit more -
James Tait married Catherine Ann Catton, Edinburgh, St Giles in 1871.
You could probably get the parents' names from that cert.
-
Wonder if this is Elizabeth & Jessie ?
Elizabeth LAWTON 24 born Leslie Perth
Jessie LAWTON 8months b. Lochee Forfar(shire)
Listed as boarders
1881 9 Grays Lane Lochee Forfar(shire)

I know that we shouldn't discuus PMs on public boards but this is just to say that I've had a PM from Q98 which thanked me and all who helped.
I think it was meant for this thread :)

Hello - I know i am resurrecting an old thread, but if q98 is still interested in information about the Tait family, i have some to share. Jessie Tait was my Great-grandmother. If anyone has a way of connecting me to q98, i'd appreciate it.

Hi JJI
Thanks and sincere apologies for tardy response. My sister who resides in Ayrshire, Scotland possesses several photographs of Tait family members which she believes rightfully belong to their extended family Should you read this, please respond and I will endeavour to put you both in contact. q98

Hello,
I believe I am long overdue to respond. If it's still possible, I would love it if you could put me in touch with your sister.
Thanks.
Best,
Josh (JJI)

Hi JJI, your communication has been forwarded to my sister in Saltcoats, Ayrshire. I was assisting her in her research as, at the time, she was a beginner in genealogy.
