Hi Colin,

Many events for Ackworth - ie BMDs, are recorded in the parish records of Hemsworth. However I have checked both the index for that parish - and the baptism entries c) 1810 -- and there is no David Hemmingway, or variant listed in those records.

So -- on the positive side --- that eliminates Hemsworth!

Regards June

Hi Colin,

I don't know whether this is significant -- but on the Family Search site - there are several children born to a John Hemingway and Elizabeth between 1796 and 1809 at Ackworth. There is no David -- but it is possible that he has simply been omitted from the register, or the page is damaged or whatever. It is evidence of a Hemingway family in the right location having children at the right time.

If you do a search on Family Search for the surname Hemingway, Yorkshire 1790 to 1810 -- you should find the Ackworth baptisms.

The only marriage I can see for likely parents was in Featherstone in 1793 (about a mile from Ackworth according to Genuki) between John Hemingway and Elizabeth Fean.

This is all 'supposition' of course, but if the names of David's children correspond in part to this family, it could be 'borne in mind' until something more definitive turns up.

Hi June,
Again Thanks,  think you might well be onto something, there is nothing around to prove or disprove your theory. One of David s children was called John but no Elizabeth.
Give it a rest now
Cheers

Colin

David Hemingway is my 1st Cousin 4 Times Removed - whatever that means!

He is the youngest child (of eight that I am aware of) from John Hemingway & Elizabeth Fean who married 16 Sept 1793 at Featherstone All Saints.  He was born 7 Jun 1809 at Low Ackworth and was bapt 9 Jul 1809 at Ackworth St Cuthbert.   He died 18 Jul 1858 at South Milford of phthesis and was buried 20 Jul 1858 at South Milford.  His wife died 5 Dec 1869 of tuberculosis.  I think they had at least seven children

John Hemingway (father of David) (my 3rd Gt Gt Uncle!) was bapt 28 Sep 1766 at Snaith St Lawrence and died at Low Ackworth in 1815 being buried at Ackworth St Cuthbert 12 Feb 1815.  His parents were Michael Hemingway and Mary Bailey.

Of course you probably know all this by now.
