Title: Is this the same man
Post by: Cocoanne1 on Monday 16 July 12 11:06 BST (UK)
Can anyone tell if the man 2nd from left top row is the same man as in the other pic.

Thanks Anne

Second from left in the front, middle or back row?

I can't see much resemblance between the single man and any of the men in the group photo - others with sharper eyes might ;)

Don't think so.

I've compared them side by side and although I'm not 100% convinced, I do see some similarities - the unruly right side of his moustache for example, and the shape of the face.  Not sure, though.

The first Songster Brigade was formed in 1898, so the first pic is almost certainly 20th century.  (Salvation Army - see the peaked hat at the back)

The cork life jacket did last into the 20th century but the photo is surely older than the other one.

I don't think so - but there is a likeness and perhaps could be related.  Father and son perhaps?

The small picture shows cork flotation devices and that gentleman looks to be perhaps in his mid 50's  to early 60's whilst the top picture would be more recent judging by the flotation vests and the man in the back row only looks IMO to be around 40 - 45

That big picture is fabulous - were they perhaps part of the local lifeboat crew???  Just curious.  The guy in the peaked cap is the coxswain 2nd row second man on the LHS facing is the 2nd Cox according to their life vests

I actually see a closer resemblance between the coxswain and the other photo - when you overlay them their features are almost a perfect match

Cheers

Maureen

:) I think that there's  a definite likeness in the eyes. But the nose of the older man (man on his own) looks bigger. The older man looks more distinguished; the other one in the group looks cheekier in spirit. I think there is also a likeness to the man in the bottom row on the far right.
Deb  ???
Great photos!!

I do think there's a likeness - a beard does conceal a lot (still recall how my brother, in shaving off his beard, revealed - to his horror - considerable double chins and a very round-looking face.  He's grown it again now!  :D)

:) I don't think it's the same man. Agree that the bottom second from right man looks very similar.
When I look at people I look at their energy and the energy of these people doesn't look the same.
Cheers Deb

I think the top of the head has a different shape.

Casualty lists from various life boat disasters often show that several members of one family were killed in a single disaster, in other words crewing runs in families, so I think there is a strong liklihood that these men are related.

By the way Deb, What do you mean by their energy? Quite beyond me I'm afraid.

:D It's the way I talk, sorry. People have different energy, just as other animals have different energy levels. eg I have a pup that is a cattle x border collie x kelpie dog that is high energy, full of cheek & fun, always wanting to test the boundaries, compared to say  a labrador that is a calmer natured dog. The 2 men that you question to me seem have different energies (looking in their eyes & facial expressions). One has a twinkle in his eye & permanent half smile on his face. The other man has a much more serious expression.
Guess i was going by the difference in personalities as much as physical appearance.

Clearer now Deb :) I thought I was missing something deep.
