Hi all,
I'm trying to trace a marriage record for Samuel De Grey (or DeGrey) and Ann Holland, who married on 13th September 1818 in Sedgley. I'm particularly interested in his father's name to take the line back, or alternatively - and presuming they married in All Saints - does anyone know where the 19th Century parish records for Sedgley are currently held? Does the Dudley archive have a copy?
Many thanks...Helen :)

Hi
Fathers names were not shown on marriage entries prior to 1.7.1837

1861 Census Samuel is born c 1799, Wolverhampton.
Looks like he remarried to an Elizabeth.
Do you have the M/C?
It should have his Fathers name/occp.
OOPs this may be it;
Samuel DE GREY, Father J De Grey
Elizabeth FORD, Father W Ford
26 August 1847, St Peters, Wolverhampton
(Familysearch.Org)
1851 they are under Degray and Samuel is born c 1798, Wolverhampton
So Father James/Joseph/John?
1st 4 Children in 1841 Census are Girls, 1st Son is a James.

Hopefully someone will provide you with the Witnesses names from the 1818 Marriage :)

Can't help with any more details of the 1818 marriage, but my printed transcript of the Sedgley Marriage Registers for the period 1781 - 1831 has the following marriage, which may perhaps be the same family:
10 February 1814: John FISHER and Sarah DIGREY, widow.

Purely by chance I found S De Grey, born about 1820, Wolverhampton, who in 1851 was butler to John Forster at Hanch, Staffs. Any connection?
Census ref Class: HO107; Piece: 2015; Folio: 271; Page: 2. Search for John Forster born 1787.
