Hi,
Not my area, but from previous experience, I would contact the Local History Dept at Hexham Library, and ask them if they have any information. They might be able to find it on old maps or old photos for instance.
hexhamlibrary AT northumberland.gov.uk
Good luck,

Thankyou copperbeech5,
I was trying to save myself ANOTHER!!! trip to the library but if i must i suppose ;D

I would contact the Local History Dept at Hexham Library,
There is a very good Local History section in Hexham Library, but you would have to visit it yourself to do the research - there is no dedicated Librarian in charge.
I have got a list of old street names of Hexham, and Round Close doesn't feature on it :(

It need not be a street ... in fact a quick Google suggests it was an acre of land http://tinyurl.com/d66f25z
and http://tinyurl.com/d882ys5
also
"Two acres of arable meadow in Round Close on Hexham east fields bounded by the Kings Way on the east"
-
For some reason I assumed it was a street name - could A-lady give some idea of the source and context of the information please?

I have put word out to my Northumbrian spies. This one sounds interesting at first glance.
There are some maps of Hexham here;
http://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/Hexham_C14.htm
I am looking through them myself at the moment.
When word gets back to me I'll let you know what comes up if anything.

hi,
Geoff-E
it was in may 1940
-
Found it!
http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html?coords=394075,563704
Right behind the hospital ;D
The roads named Nent Grove, Rede Avenue, Chirdon Crescent and Allen Drive all seem to have been originally collectively named Round Close.
if you look at the 1957 map you can see the word Round Close beside them.
-
You can see it really well here
http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/intermap/viewer.htm
Click on search, then select co-ordinates.
A new page opens.
In the bottom two boxes enter 394075 and 563704, then click on 'centre map'
You will get a map with the present-day location.
Select 1960 - 1969 from the drop-down menu at the bottom of the page, and you can clearly see Round Close.
Use the + or - buttons at the bottom of the map to zoom in and out.

Thankyou so much JenB,
The 2nd one shows it perfect, that's saved me a long trip again phew!!!.

For reasons best known to Northumberland Council, the houses are still there but the road names have been changed http://tinyurl.com/d7k3ctd :)

Sorry Geoff-E for the late reply,
Thankyou :)

I was in Hexham yesterday for the first time. I was looking for Round Close as my great grandmother lived there, i wish i had read all the above before i went! any one on here know anything about the Parker Bell family, my great grandmother lived on Round Close, my mum who was born in 1935 remembers visiting her there regularly.

Round Close is still there. It is a council Estate in the East End of Hexham.

Hi
As a child I lived at two addresses in Round Close in Hexham on Tyne. I can't remember the house number of the first home, but the second was number 21
If you check Google maps the rough area contains the following newly (to me) named roads
Derwent Rd. Chirdon Cres. Reed Ave. Wanless Lane. Allen Drive.
Hope this helps

Yes, these are shown on the map that GeoffE linked to in his reply #13 of this thread :)
