I am looking for information on a Morgan family in Swansea. My 4th great grandfather, William Morgan, was born 13/14 Oct 1793, in Swansea. His father's name is also William.
Thank you,
Matt

Hello Matt :)
There is a possible Baptism at St Mary's Church, Swansea, on 1st November 1793. See this free site:
http://www.freereg.org.uk/cgi/Search.pl
Unfortunately it's a fairly common name so it's hard to pin down the right family. :-\
did they live in Swansea town or in a neighbouring area?
Best Wishes

Hello Morgan,
Thanks for the web site, I was not aware of it. I've been playing around on it and its great.
Yeah, my problem is the church records only say "William, son of William Morgan" when it seems like there were dozens of Wm. Morgan's at this time at St. Mary's Church.
I do not know if they were from Swansea town or the neighbouring area. Any idea how one could figure that out?
The William Morgan I'm looking for joined the army in 1809 and died in 1828, never coming back to Swansea.
Thank you,
Matt

Hello Matt :)
The free site may not have all the info that was on the original Parish record. You could contact Swansea record office (West Glamorgan Archives) and request a copy of the entry. However, you sill can't be certain that it will be your William.
I'm not sure what army records have survived from that period, or what information they would contain, but it may be worth investigating what is available at NA:
http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records%5Cdefault.htm
follow the looking for a Person link and there are various links relating to Army Personnel.
Best Wishes
Morgan
