Hi
Can anyone help I am coming up against a brick wall
My grandfather was born 1897 in lincoln
his father was Herbert Brown C 1879 born
his father was Thomas Brown
how or why he went from Lincoln to Prescot where he married is a mystery but Charlottes family moved every 3-4 years I assume due to he fathers occupation james Heald as a school master
Herbert Married Charlotte Annie Heald in 1897 in St swithens Lincoln
Charlotte is burried in st Helens Cemetary she died 1930
her parents were James Heald and Ann Borer
Herbert and Thomas are elluding me I can find them anywhere
-
Where are Herbert and Charlotte in 1901 ? What was the chrisitian name of your grandfather bn 1897.
Rosie
-
what is your grandfathers name?
*oops sorry just seen rosie just asked that
-
Hi Rosie
grandfather was reginald
I understand they were in Prescot in 1901
I am now possibly being told my dates are incorrect for their births I have now been told they might be 1873 for Charlotte and 1865 for Herbert
I know in 1911 they were both in Prescot at eccleston lane ends although Herberts name does not appear on the household census
-
Hi,
Do you know Herbert's occupation - I'm having trouble finding them in 1901 - if he was a carpenter then there is a possiblity that it has been mistranscribed.

Charlottes birth was registered December qtr 1872 Whitchurch, Hampshire.
-
now you can see the wall I am coming up against the DOB for both are constantly changing and I haven't got past the wedding certificate yet which I am having difficulty obtaining for some reason
I have been told on several occasions it does not exist on record when I apply for it.
Thanks for the help guys

From FreeBMD Q1 1897 - Herbert Brown, Lincoln, vol 7a, page 669. On the same page Charlotte Annie Heald.
Is it the GRO that say it does not exist or some other source?
-
The GRO
I applied by internet first and then called them direct and gave them the Id numbers etc even the dates but it didn't help
So it's back to the drawing board
One thing I do remeber though is years ago someone saying they had not been able to get a copy of their marraige Cert as there had been a fire at Possibly sommerset house and it had been destroyed but again how true this was is anybodys guess My granparents past seems to be shrouded in mystery for some reason Probably a family aurgument
he always said his parents were teachers and went to America but I have traced his mother to St Helens Cemetary and living in Prescot as a dressmaker so I doubt that story is true anymore
but his father and Grandfather are elluding me hherbert is not even registered as living with Charlotte in Prescot on 1901 census
someone suggested he may be in the forces
Any suggestions would be appreciated as to my next move
Knowing my luck they were highwaymen or murderers :D
-
Have you tried contacting the register office in Lincs to see if they still have their copy? See here -

Apologies
try it another way
it looks like Charlotte went on to have further children
Winifred in c1902 sheffield and Wilfred in c1911 Prescot
as Winifred was born in Sheffield maybe Herbert/charlotte are around that area in 1901 census?
Wilfred J Brown Prescot Jun 1911 8b 705
2 possible Winifreds for Sheffield birth Sept 1901 9c 616 or Mar 1903 9c 553

You could try ordering again from the GRO, but when you order online, don't quote the reference numbers. You will be taken to another screen where you can enter the names, actual place and date.
It is slightly cheaper ordering from the GRO now.

Have you discounted
81 Census - BOURN Aslackby Lincolnshire

Albert H c1874 Lincoln
Charles W c1875 Lincoln
Catherine E c1880 Lincoln

in 91 same family with addition of Ethel Annie c1884 and Edith Emily c1885. Albert and Herbert missing but there are several Herbert Browns as visitors or farm servants for 91
-
I think it was mentioned on the previous thread ? in 1901 it really looks likely that Herbert, Charlotte and Reginald are registered as Graham in Sheffield (Ecclesfield) Piece 4332 folio 159 page 10
Herbert - Joiner - born 1874 Ceylon British Subject
Charlotte born 1874 Laverstoke Hants
Reginald born 1898 Lincolnshire
Charlotte and Reginalds births correspond with what you have found and Sheffield corresponds to birth of Winifred in c1902
Cant find these people in next census or a very likely Herbert Graham in the previous one, or Herbert Graham to Charlotte marriage in that time span
-
Hi
I have found a link between Reginald Brown's parents being Herbert brown and Chgarlotte heald I know they married in 1897 but i have now found a 2nd Spouse named William Pask which I found in search my Past in a transcript
but when I run a search I just come up with her marraige to Herbert in 1897 is it possible William Pask is his real name ??
-
The 1897 marriage has this information as per freebmd for the persons whose marriage was registered in the Lincoln registration district March qtr 1879 under the reference 7a 669. (The 7a relates to the area and the 669 the page number.)
Brown Herbert
Heald Charlotte Annie
Hinch Henrietta
Pask George William
This would indicate that Herbert Brown married either Charlotte Heald or Henrietta Hinch and that George William Pask married the other one. Millie has already confirmed that Herbert married Charlotte at St Swithins so Gge Pask obviously married Henrietta.
In some periods the BMD registers will have up to 8 persons listed under the same page number in the register. :)

Thanks For that I though I had opened a real can of worms then its back to the drawing board then
I do however now know Herberts father was Thomas Brown now so I am moving but
I think I will concentrate on my Grandmothers family for a while as this one is testing my patience
Thanks for the efforts its much appreciated
-
If it is Herbert Brown showing as Herbert Graham in 1901 as per baggygenes post 17 then he states he was born in Ceylon. Perhaps his father Thomas was in the army, his marriage certificate may confirm this.
