looking for information mainly about William Flowerday born 1802 possibly Ludham - died 1858 Hull married Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd in Lakenham in 1831 - I have no information before this date but in the 1871 census his widow has a Richard Flowerday born 1811 Yarmouth living with her and he is described as her brother in law. Other names in this tree include Harriet Shepherd (sister) who married Edward Neve from Catfield and one of their children Sarah Jane Neve married her first cousin Frederick John Flowerday son of William in Hull - the only record I can find of Richard Flowerday is the 1871 census so I can't work back from this point - Any help about these families who started off in Norfolk and ended up in Hull greatfully received - JC

Hello JC,
I expect you've seen the 1851 census for William Flowerday, Ref HO107/2360 Folio 682, page 39, where William Flowerday is living with his wife, Sarah Elizabeth, and several children, in James Street, Hull.
William says his place of birth is Stalham, which is about 5 miles from Ludham.
I was interested to see that William's marriage to Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd was by licence.
Again, apologies if you've seen this entry - I'm afraid the only witness I can read clearly is Harriet Shepherd - https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-266-11673-143147-76?cc=1416598&wc=MMVP-77G:2146010662
I'll try to find the licence, to see if it gives any more information.

Hi again,
Luckily finding the marriage bond wasn't too difficult, as Lakenham was one of the Peculiars of the Dean and Chapter of Norwich .... (don't ask me!!?) so I didn't have to search hundreds of pages.
Trouble is, I can't read it! Perhaps you may be able to. The main handwritten paragraph, towards the end of the page, as far as I can make out is ..... " and he further made oath that she the said Sarah Elizabeth Shepherd ....." and then I'm afraid I can't read any more very clearly.

Had a look at the Stalham baptisms (as William says he was born there on the 1851 census...)
This looks like a possible - William, son of John Flowerdew and Elizabeth his wife (late Johnson) was born May 21st and baptised May 23 - this was 1802.

I think it's something claiming that she has no one who can consent to her marriage - no father or guardian?

thanks to everyone has has posted a reply - it has given me other avenues to explore - I especially liked the marriage bond which confirmed her father had died before 1831 - still looking for that record - JC
