Can anyone help please in helping me find the death of my Great Grandfather William Hutton who was born in Coatham, Yorkshire in 1831.
He spent most of his life in the Gosport area during his service in the Navy ( Record already obtained )
He married Sarah Ann Elizabeth Betteridge in 1879 & they lived together at least until the 1911 census recorded them in Cobden St.
The story has it that he was an alcholic & they parted due to his drinking.
Sarah lived until 1958 but the last known reference to him is the 1911 census.
Many thanks for reading this.

Hi, is your William, the William Daniel Hutton aged 55 on the 1911 census, living with Sarah Ann at 1 Terrace Road, Newport - married for 5 years - and he listed as being born in Westmorland?

Hi
I think I have found your William Hutton on the 1901 census, but his age is different to your information. He gives his age as 43, and a dockyard labourer born in Sheffield. His wife, Sarah Ann is aged 38 and hails from Portsmouth, and they are there with their children (all born in Gosport): Ellen, Kate, Albert, Amy and Ralph.

Hi,
No, he is listed as living at 23 Cobden Street Gosport aged 53 years. Some records show him as being born in Coatham and some in Guisborough.
Thank you for your response Vimto.
In reply to your 2nd post that is the family. I do have all data from the census, it is really his death which has been a mystery for years. Thank you.

Hi, using Ralph I have now tracked your family on the 1911 census, with William and Sarah Ann at 23 Cobden Street, Forton, Gosport. Now he gives his age as 53 (born 1858) from Gainsborough.
Will try and trace him after this date.

Hi
I have found a death registry that may be your relative:
William Hutton, Q1, 1940, Portsmouth, Vol. 2B, pg. 1760, aged 82

Hi, looks like this person was also interested in tracing your relative:

Vimto, Thank you for all your help.
I have just ordered the certificate so hopefully that will confirm things.
I shall also have a look at the other thread you have found.
Thanks once again
