I am looking for some information/pictures of St James Church, Holloway. My parents were married there in 1927, and my mother received the vicars prize for attendance in the early 1900's. I believe that the church suffered bomb damage and has not been rebuilt. The family home was in Eden Grove, and I believe that the church was somewhere close by. Have looked everywhere but can find no information. Any help/ideas please would be greatly appreciated. conqueror_2 :)

I have come across this, hope it's of some helps.
Eden Grove is a couple of streets away from Chillingworth road.
The parish of Saint James was established in 1839 with the name Saint James the Apostle. The name was changed to Saint James in 1846. The church was constructed in 1837 in a neo-classical style, situated on Victoria Road (now Chillingworth Road). The building was damaged in 1944 by enemy action, and restored as a parish hall built inside the old church; the derelict roof remains. The parish united with Saint Mary Magdalene's in 1954.
All Church records are held at the London Metropolitan Archives.

This is of no use to you, but between Eden Grove and Chillingworth Road is George's Road where my grandmother Annie Eliza Matthews was born in 1876. Sadly her father Thomas dropped dead in Victoria Road, now Chillingworth Road, in 1879.

Hi
Have you contacted Islington Archives to see if they hold any pictures of the church?

The London Metropolitan Archives is putting its collection of pictures and photographs online

Very many thanks to you all for the information you have given me, which is very much appreciated. I will shortly be approcahing the Islington archives etc. It is very difficult researching some of this stuff when one is not able to visit the places of one's interest. Thank you once again.

Hello, my grandmother (Mildred Pickett) lived at 37 Eden Grove Road and was baptized at the Parish of St. James in 1915.

I have two pictures of St James on my flickr site in the folder "Churches no more - London"

Parts of the church still stand in Chillingworth Road - see the link on the photo's page on flickr.
