Title: Sarah Millington B abt 1821 Barlow

Hi

I am trying to find a marriage for Sarah Millington Born abt 1821 at Barlow, Chesterfield. Father John Millington mother Ann Swindell of Barlow. I have her in the 1841 census living with her parents at Barlow but can't trace her after this as I suspect she has married.

There are an awful lot of Sarah Millingtons getting married in the 1840's and early 1850's..Staffs Cheshire.Notts.Leics.to name but a few...........have you any other information that will narrow it down a bit???

The only Derbyshire marriage for a Sarah Millington of about the right time is to one JOHN MURFIN in Ashbourne District JFM 1852........

any thanks for looking and replying, her father was John and mother Ann all from Barlow and Brampton, Chesterfield. John was a farmer and cattle dealer.

Cornishtin - you give abt 1821 & Barlow as date & place of birth.

Do you have her baptism or are you deriving this from the 1841 Census? If the latter you need to factor in 1841's roundings for age so 20 would represent 20-24 so date of birth roughly 1816-1821 & the place Derbyshire (1841 only has in county of residence level of detail).

Further to the last entry, which is a very good tip........SARAH MILLINGTON daughter of John Millingtonton and Anne nee Swindell was actually baptised at Old Brampton 21.02.1819.......her parents married at Dronfield 28.06.1813............her brother George Millington was buried as an infant at Old Brampton 24.02.1814.

I don't know how well you know the Chesterfield area..but i know it very well..and in case you get confused about the shifting around between Barloe,Dronfield,Brampton etc...........don't worry..they are all very close to each other. Chesterfield is packed to the gills with different Parishes, and it can get very confusing.

For information only..from the Old Brampton Parish records.the following:-

Henry Millington of Newgate Barlow married Martha Orwin 21.10.1839
John Millington married Hannah Turner 04.07.1837

thankyou for the baptism info, I did not have that. I did have the sibling and parent info but thanks for that as well. I had noticed that the family birth places changed in census frequently from Brampton to Barlow and vice versa.

My direct line follows Sarah's sister - Hannah bpt Brampton on 5th March 1815.
