Title: Possible Stourbridge Marriage c.1826
Post by: maureenjoan on Wednesday 04 July 12 10:25 BST (UK)
I am trying to trace a marriage between Daniel Donovan (b.1803, Cork, Ireland) and Mary Ann Pope (b.1806 Bridgnorth).  Son James Donovan was born Stourbridge in 1845 and Daniel and Mary are shown in Stourbridge cenus from 1841 to 1871.

I believe their marriage would have been in about 1825/26 - their first child John was 15 in 1841.  Although they came from Ireland/Bridgnorth - it looks like they settled in Stourbridge so possibly married there? (bit of a long shot - maybe I should be posting under Bridgnorth, Shropshire!)  Are any early Stourbridge marriage records on-line?  Any advice would be welcome.  Thanks.

Yes, had picked that one up, many thanks tho.  Also got the 1861, Enville Street, Stourbridge.   Mary died before 1871 census (Mar qtr 1871) but have Daniel with son James in 1871.  He then died Stourbridge 1874.  However the marriage is my problem  :)  Am really hoping to find their parents names to take me back another generation.

With a Marriage of that time Parents names are not going to be given. The best you can hope for is that the Witnesses to the Marriage are related.

The best you can hope for is a Christening and unfortunately Irish research can be a nightmare without knowing exactly where Daniel was born, ie Town and County. It often involves visiting Ireland and going through Parish Records.

Mary Ann POPE Christened 12 Feb 1804, St Mary Magdalene, Bridgenorth, Shropshire.
Birth 14 Jan 1804
Parents RICHARD/ELIZABETH
Sibling;
CAROLINE, 26 July 1801

Possible Marriage;
Richard POPE/Elizabeth PURCHASE 25 May 1795, Albrighton near Wolverhampton, Shropshire, England

Great Trish - that sounds good.  Didnt expect to find anything for my Daniel who was born in Cork as I know Irish records are pretty much a nightmare.  However finding that entry for Mary Ann christening which gives her parents is what I hoped for so I am delighted.  So thanks a million for your help.

That certainly looks a possible Jackie.  Her name is right, his christian name, surname - nearly, and the date is about right.  I have their first child in 1826 but thats not to say there wasnt one (or two) prior to that. He would have been 20 and she, 19.  So all in all I think we are on a winner.

Many thanks.  Have never found my way to national archives search.  Shall have to investigate.

Appreciate you taking the time and trouble to look for me
